When will Plex ever fix the fast forward function for Live TV for recordings in progress? Going through forums that have Closed, this function has not worked since it was first introduced. You can correctly fast forward with a Live TV recording in progress as long as you are within 30 minutes of the current recording. Anything like a sports game in which you start watching an hour after the start, it will start working as one would expect but then continue to fail when trying to fast forward. Most times, it will not actually fast forward, but go back in time for about 2-3 minutes, and then you have to either watch the same part again or take a chance and try to FF again and hope it works. Eventually, it will just stop working all together and gets stuck in a buffer state. You can go back for 3 years and find the same complaints on the forums with no solution provided. IF someone has found an option/settings to make this work for them when a Live TV show is still a recording in progress and is at least an hour ahead, please provide your settings or hardware setup.
Here are link from prior posts of the similar issue going back to 2019:
I did notice also that you cannot timeshift during a recording in progress. Or rather my wife did. She is actually the one that finds half the issues.
I have had numerous other issues:
-Recordings would sometimes stop short of the full show
-Recordings would sometimes get hung up after completion and not ever show up in the folder.
-Cannot pause live TV for more than 10 min without crash (I was told this was intentional)
-Recordings would sometimes not stop at the end of the show, would end up with 18 hours of recording.
-audio lip/sync still not working correctly when timeshifting sometimes.
Unfortunately I kinda gave up trying. I would watch forums and it would take months to years of the occasional “we are still investigating”. Sometimes issues would be fixed, but would break again later. It’s just kinda a mess.
The other issue is the effort to report the issue. I would have to pull logs from both my server and my android client. Sometimes I wouldn’t go to watch the recording until the next week, and the android logs are already gone. I think they only keep for 24 hours or so.
Anyway - I don’t have time for all of it. Kids, busy job, etc. I just wanted it to work.
I have a lifetime plexpass, so its no big deal on cost. it works for about 90-95% of my uses, so I will keep using it and just try to ignore the issues.
When my shield fails or its time for a hardware update I will probably just move on to youtube TV or some other DVR product. Life is too short to keep messing around with all this stuff.
That is not to say PLEX isnt a good service or product for others. I applaud what they are trying to do. It just didnt work out well for me.
