Live TV from remote Plex Server with HDHomeRun Prime stops after 3 minutes

I have just stopped updating plex clients after the last TV bug. It works fine for playback and I can keep server updates going without destroying WAF.

8.11.0.22186 works for me well for liveTV use. Just load that and turn off auto updating. Android TV doesn’t seem to allow you to not auto update just one app, so I have to manually update all apps on android TV which is painful, but not that bad so far.

At some point I am sure a server update will require client updates, but again, we can just leave it at the old version. Plex seems to be adding features outside the core functionality most of us bought it for, so running old versions of Plex means you aren’t missing much.

We use Plex for all our DVR and liveTV use with Nvidia Shields. Their release testing seems to be broken for this platform, so find a good version that works for you and just not update. Otherwise expect your wife and kids to constantly be telling you something is broken. Sad but true.

I have my wife’s shield “locked” on Plex for Android version 8.6.0.20351. Anything newer and the issue comes back.

And you are totally correct, having to manually update apps is a real pain.

I just wish they would acknowledge the problem and work on fixing it.

I tested this again after getting the server and client updates and the issue remains.

It appears that Plex does not care to fix this issue.

Been unable to use my Chromecast 4 for a while now as well.

Have completely given up on Plex for LiveTV. It’s worthless.

How is this still not fixed, months later? Plex has become a ridiculous joke.

Yes, it is a shame that Plex has not fixed this problem yet.

After updating the Plex Android app on my nvidia shield TV boxes, it seems that this is no longer an issue.

So far I have been able to stream live TV from the NY plex server that has the DVR setup with the HDHomeRun Prime and FIOS cablecard without the stream ending after 3 to 4 minutes.

Confirmed this is now working fine. I don’t ever remember seeing the fix listed in any of the release notes for server upgrades.

I’m pretty sure it was a client issue.
