So I’ve successfully transitioned my system over to a new windows 10 rig, everything working great except for 3 things I’ve noticed.
I see a bit of it among the search results but most of them refer to over the air antenna users, when I enable hard ware transcode, certain channels just refuse to stay active, I originally though this was an issue with users having issues with files playback as well but I now believe that is actually related to the file being corrupted in the grand scheme of things. However, this also seems to relate mostly to having HW transcoding on, those same channels when running software encoding seem to play semi stable with the occasional jump. However when I have HW transcode on after 10-15 minutes my server crashes completely and the computer needs to be restarted.
When doing live tv playback via an Apple TV or iPad, from an HDHome Run Prime, it seems that after a set amount of time the transcoder always “crashes” and terminates my stream. I’m not sure if this is like an inactivity timer or something kicking in with the transcoder to save resources or if it’s a glitch. However when watching hockey games or any sports this can be a bit of a pain, as it will kick you out and leave you unable to watch the game. Right now I’ve been stress testing the system to see how long it can go before it drops anything and it seems like 2 hours roughly is when the transcoder “crashes”
Could this be like a built in inactivity timer causing the transcoder to kick off a stream?
As I sit here, it seems to only occur on a select few channels with hardware transcoding on, I currently have in the web client SEC ESPN up watching college basketball, the pga tour up on another channel but for the life of me I can not get ATT Sports Network to stay active, watching the HDHome Run tuner information page the signal never drops below 89% quality wise. What makes me wonder though is if I watch it in the HD Home run app nothing is wrong, and if I turn off Hardware Transcode, it streams just fine with no more hiccups then any other channel through the flex server, so why does HW transcode break it o.O
So I’ve relocated my HDHomeRun Unit, and made sure the home run unit was on a split feed to the same feed as a cable box, and suddenly on ATT Sports network my signal looks like this. However, now NHL Network HD doesn’t seem to transcode properly.
I also seem to experience crashes on windows plex while attempting to use this with 3 devices internally to stress test the network, these crashes require me to restart my computer completely. I’m not sure if this is because my transcode drive perhaps is on a USB docking station for the time being on a separate drive?
So been playing with this more, after roughly 40 minutes or so and any time all three tuners are running and a single tv show stream running when the file switches on the tv show it causes the entire server to crash.
I moved over to windows to benefit from hardware transcoding which I get is a beta function, but even with hardware transcoding turned off why am I crashing with 3 tuner active and tv show activity I am seeing less then 50% activity on cpu and spikes at the 90%.
Having similar issues, server seems to crash when attempting to stream any live TV, no real set time frame for when it has happened so far, worked for an hour, then crashed. Next Day 3 minutes, then crashed.

What I’ve had good luck with so far is dedicated a swap drive basically just to the transcoder, with live tv especially I’m seeing activity of 3-5 MB/s write to the drive while streaming a single live tv feed. It seems when put onto the main system drive or an external USB the data rates begin to do something to the computer that cause it to crash.
Since initiating a swap drive I’ve been seeing streams able to hold for 2+ hours, and actually ran a stream overnight, it was constantly buffering come the morning and locking up but that seemed to be on the apps end not the server end since as soon as I exited app and started back up I could resume streaming on both my Apple TV and my iPad. They also never reported the transcoder crashing on the overnight streams which is what usually happened before I put in a swap drive.
Well, attempted to turn on hw transcode again, made it about 20 minutes with 2 streams hw transcoding and 1 stream sw transcoding before the whole system had to be rebooted again. Couldn’t even get plex to just quit and be restarted I had to full on restart the computer.
Adding that I seem to run into the same issue. After an indeterminate amount of time (sometimes 5 minutes, sometimes an hour, sometimes never), Plex just hangs up while live TV is running and require I restart the whole server. I’ve got plenty of storage, and it’s running on a 6700K (barely any resource usage when transcoding live TV). So it’s not a lack of resources.
Running WS 2012 with Plex 1.11.1.4760 and a HDHomeRun PRIME on firmware 20170930 (although this problem has been occurring since Plex added Live TV).

I will tell you this since no one seems to reply or care about this. I Just installed a Quadro P4000 graphics card, I have yet to see a single Weak Signal that I normally saw on channels and I have had no issues with hw transcode being active even at 5+ video signals. I honestly think the Intel quick sync is falsely reporting the usage and was sitting at a much higher usage when I was testing it. Then again maybe it is a shared memory issue and it couldn’t keep up with the constant stream.
