Live Tv issue on Android TV( shield TV 2019 and Google TV chromecast) : playback stops after some minutes

Hi,

I have an issue with shield TV 2019 and live TV. After some minutes on a channel, the live tv closed and come back to the guide. (around 4-5 minutes)
Regardless of channel, it is systematic.
What is Strange is that on panel “Now playing”, I didn’t see anything when the live tv works but the activity show that we have a session. No problem with movie or serie of my library.

I tested with my TV philips with Android TV and I don’t have this problem. (same client version). I suppose even if it is Android for both, There are some difference.

I tested with transcoder option or not. It is the same beahvior.

Live TV Playback Stops Suddenly

I have the same issue and it is absolutely frustrating. Live TV works fine over the LAN but will stop when remote watching LIVE TV. It will stop, usually after 5-10 minutes. I’ve tried playing original quality, auto switching quality and even lowering it to the lowest quality when transcoding but all fail within minutes. It used to work but hasn’t for months. I will test today with new googletv chromecast and a xiaomi box.

As I said I don’t have this issue with my Philips TV or on my android phone (one plus 7 pro).

What is strange is that on devices where I don’t have this issue, I have another linked to the subtitles always activated (French channels) when it is in Direct streaming. I need to activate transcoding to remove subtitles. I don’t have this issue on Shield.

I paid plex pass to use live tv and DVR but is impossible.

I just tested with google tv new chromecast and the live tv & DVR works perfectly. No stop and subtitle are available on the screen only if we ask them.

I think that it can be a way to resolve both issues.

Update same problem on Google TV chromecast.

I tested, if I select transcoding, the panel “Now playing”, show the play and I can come back on direct play and the livet tv doesn’t stop after.

please plex team , can you correct this problem on Android TV player. Live tv is not usable for the moment.

Have you set up your local subnet correctly in your Plex Server settings -> “LAN Networks”?

I made a major network change on my LAN. I had to switch to a new subnet due to a VPN conflict. I thought I had made all the IP address changes needed on Plex Server. Then live TV on my Shield TV Pro (only TV I use) started cutting out every few minutes. Recordings were all recording and playing back no problem. Then I noticed on my dashboard that all my traffic was “remote”. I discovered I forgot to change the LAN subnet in the Plex Server settings. Once I updated those two fields with my new subnet the Playback on Live TV issue went away.

I tried with the new Chromecast with GTV and still stops after a few minutes. Very frustrating since i only signed up for the plex pass to watch tv remotely and spent a lot of money on TV tuners. Live TV does work over LAN just not remotely

This bug has been around since September. I’m not sure why it is taking so long to get it fixed.
Here are some of the technical details I figured out, hopefully the Plex dev team can get it fixed soon.

These timeline requests tell the server what the app is playing, if it is playing or paused, the current time in the file that is playing, etc. It sends these requests out every 10 seconds. This bug has been around since September. I’m not sure why it is taking so long to get it fixed.

Based on Plex’s history, we can probably expect this to be fixed sometime towards the end of this year.

I believe it was also first publicly reported here a month earlier on Aug 18th.

Same thing happens on my Google Chromecast with Google TV. At almost exactly the 5-minute mark during live TV viewing, the show just stops and plex goes back to the guide screen. No issues with local media in my TV shows or movies library, including recorded TV shows.

This doesn’t happen on my android phone (pixel 4a), my iPad mini 5, multiple rokus or when watching in a web browser, when on local network or remote.

Just here to +1 this as I just got a new Google TV Chromecast that’s apparently useless to me, since nothing updates the playtime/status. Other software/apps seem to do this fine, would be great to see a fix go in at some point.

Edit: The newest beta seems to resolve it, I’m able to see now playing and content updates on the server side again.
