On both my CCwGTV and NVIDIA Shield watching Live TV will stop after 2ish minutes. Previously this was happening only on my CCwGTV if other devices were also watching the same channel.
Currently it appears to be happening on any channel no matter if other devices are tuned to that channel. This was not happening on either the previous version of the Android TV App and/or the previous version of the Server on my Shield (but was on CCwGTV). This is only affecting devices within the local network.
At my secondary address I am having no issues with the same models, CCwGTV and NVIDIA Shield.
I do not get this error on my Pixel 8 pro, desktop, web browser, or Roku while on the local network.
Overall some form of this issue has haunted me since July 28th 2023 with no response from Plex.
I did some testing this morning and I am not a developer by any means. But I thought that since it is only happening on my home network (same network as the Plex server) that changing the quality of the Home Streaming from Maximum to lower quality that may have some affect. It did not. I tried all the 1080p and 720p settings and nothing seemed to work. Actually the more times I re-launched the channel the worst it got (quicker it closed out and put me back at the TV
I can’t really help you, but I can tell you that I experience a similar issue with live TV playback, using a HDHomerun Flex4k. But for me, the video stops playing and I get a popup message that says there was an error playing the video. It can happen within a few minutes of starting, but I’ve also had it happen after a couple hours.
I’ve tried to capture logs for it, but I’ve been unsuccessful so far.
Also had some issues with my Nvidia Shield yesterday during the Superbowl. It acted the same as the CCwGTV, but lasted longer before the feed would stop and boot me back to the TV guide menu.
Really would like to see if anyone else is having this issue and if someone from Plex is able to test this. I have two CCwGTV in my house and I can recreate this issue on both of them. It has been an ongoing issue since at least July of 2023. Live TV stops playing after 10 minutes.
I have not had one Plex employee try and reach out.
Provide the time the playback started and ended, along with the name of the program being played.
It appears from the original logs you posted that you’re hosting PMS on a Linux-based server. Where do you have your transcoder temporary directory pointing? (Settings → [Server Name] → Transcoder → Transcoder temporary directory.)
Different clients (and different versions of the app on those clients) could cause different server behavior for playback (whether or not it is transcoded, for example). If transcoding is occurring and the transcoder’s temp directory is pointed to a space-limited location, it could cause issues should it become full.
In Plex the transcode directory is pointing towards “/transcode”. In Unraid I have the TRANS_DIR pointed towards /transcode. I then have another path for “/transcode” that points to “/mnt/plex_cache/tmp/”. This is a 1TB SSD that has over 700GB free space.
Little bit of a breakthrough, weirdly this seems to happen when selecting from the Guide menu. When selecting from the “What’s On” tab I have not been able to reproduce the issue. But when selecting from the guide it can crash within minutes.
Not knowing anything about developing or applications I have a sense this points more towards the App than my Plex Server or network.
I am still on 10.8, so waiting for the 10.9 update for Android TV to see if anything has changed.
Having same issues with channels with great reception. To keep it from cutting in and out I have to go to the remote and select transcode, then it crashes.
I’ve tried so many ways in the past years.
I have a better shot at using the hdhomerun app or Crystal IPTV.
