Many recorded TV broadcasts in my TV Shows library have the wrong Title and Summary. The Guide is correct, and the filename and content of the recording are consistent with the Guide. Why is the metadata wrong and how can I fix it so the Title and Summary are populated correctly? I should not have to manually fix recordings.
You would have to give some actual examples but what I suspect is that Plex made a choice to use the guide data instead of matching against TMDB/TVDB for all recordings. This is to cover the condition when there is a new show that doesn’t have data on TMDB/TVDB.
The problem appears for a number of recordings of Great Performances broadcast by 9.1 KQEDDT or 54.1 KQEHDT (San Francisco)
One specific example recorded on August 27, 2023:
Recording name: Great Performances (1972) - S50E15 - Leonard Bernstein’s Kaddish Symphony.ts
Title: Now Hear This “Andy Akiho Found (his) Sound”.
The recording name correctly identifies the episode recorded. Media Info doesn’t show what station was recorded, which seems necessary to determine the episode.
According to DVR Schedule, that episode was scheduled for recording today, August 4, 2024, but its was not recorded. I presume Plex determined that no recording was necessary because a recording was already present based on attributes from the Guide data.
Perhaps Plex could offer the option to use Guide data for Title and Summary?
I think it is the other way around:
You must record into a library which is not trying to match the files to one of Plex’s metadata sources. i.e. a library which is set to “Personal Media”
And you also must not try to match the recordings manually.
If you obey the above, Plex will only use the metdata which were available in the EPG at the time of recording.
