TV Show, Episode Naming Broken (Again)

Server Version#: 1.19.4.2935
Player Version#: N/A
Tuner Make/Model: N/A
Guide/Lineup name: N/A
Using XMLTV?: Yes, Schedules Direct
Channel number/Name: Golf Channel

Hi,

I had this problem in the past, but it seems to have resurfaced. I record a show, and even though the Enhanced Guide is disabled (this was the issue in the past), the XMLTV information is not being (fully) used for my recording. Rather, Plex tries to match (it should not), and the episodes have names like (for example), “Episode 6664”.

If I go in to edit the show information, the Sort Title is correct (and exactly right!), but the Title is blank. Also, the Originally Available date is 1900-01-01 (vs. the recording date). And, the Summary is blank. It seems that there is a (new?) XMLTV bug?

Thanks!

FYI, digging in to it - really seems to be a recent PMS update that has broken this . What happens now,

  • XMLTV information seems to be lost, rather,
  • The TVDB is searched, even though no (proper / good) match is found => show name is incorrect
  • As no match is found, the episode name is also lost
  • Episode date is also incorrect, now showing as 1900-01-01

Is there a way to go back to an old version of the server, to get my XMLTV information to be used again? It is frustrating to lose that good info. And I don’t have Enhanced Guide enabled, so thinking this is bug.

Thanks.

Could you get server logs covering the time when it goes wrong. Also a copy of your xmltv file and info on what was recorded and matched incorrectly

Sure, will do! I had changed the Library (Agent) for now, to avoid this (and that does work). Will change it back, let the next recording happen (Thursday).

Thanks!

OK - it happened again today (and I even updated the server to the latest version this morning!). The logs are attached, and also the XMLTV file.

FYI, it also renamed the existing shows in that “series”. And for the show today - the Summary is missing, as is the Title (the Sort Title is there though: Rocket Mortgage Classic, First Round). Also, for a show that was already present, it threw away the summary information that was there (gone now).

Thanks!

Thank you for the logs and the xmltv file

I have reproduced the issue of the “PGA Tour Golf” getting changed to “A Cook’s Tour of Spain” after recording

Earlier this year we stopped matching tvdb for recordings but that change did not apply to xmltv setups

You could disable the matching to thetvdb by having DVR Recordings dedicated libraries - one for TV Shows and one for Movies amd edit the properties of the libraries in Plex Web / Library / Manage / Edit / Advanced and for the TV Recording library, change the agent to “Personal Media Shows”

Any shows previously matched to thetvdb would continue to be done that way for new recordings and you would need to start with a new empty library or unmatch previously matched recordings

There is still a further issue which I will get it looked into and that relates to the loss of the summary text. It appears to get lost even when thetvdb is not used for matching

Awesome, glad you were able to reproduce it - thanks!

Yep, that was what I was doing as a workaround. Seems I wasn’t fully off base … LOL!

Dumb question perhaps, but why not extend this - meaning also stop matching tvdb for recordings in xmtlv setups? Just thinking to be consistent, treat them the same (xmltv or not).

NP, thanks for digging! At the same time … perhaps fix that the date is always set to 1900-01-01? It should be set to the recording date (or original air date if available, but not 1900 … ).

Thanks for the help!

Because it was thought that there are a lot of xmltv epg files with not much metadata

Ahhh, OK - understood. Perhaps something to add as an option later - would be nice to keep all TV shows in the same place, but for now I may need to separate them it seems.

Thanks!

This was looked into recently and we look for two fields -
<date> or <original-air-date> - if neither set we end up with 0 which ends as 1-1-1900

Perhaps air date would be a better default. I will raise this internally

Thanks! FYI, I checked my xmltv file, and for an item like the one that failed - I don’t see these fields. But why not trigger (for recordings) off the start (date)?

I will propose we use that as the default for TV episodes in the absence of the <date> / <original-air-date> fields

Thanks!!!

Hi,

I did set up a separate Library for recordings - to avoid XMLTV items being matched using TheTVDB. But it seems the Title and Originally Available fields are still not being set correctly?

Thanks!
