Quick question about playback. So I have a NAS for my media storage and thats where I have my DVR writing to. I see whenever someone is watching live tv theres a status of “Recording” and I assume this is to support the rewind feature. The question I had was is this writing to my NAS where I have my DRS set to be when I record a show series, or in the cache path? I dont really want plex writing to my NAS HDD array constantly like that and I would rather it use the M.2 ssd I have setup for my cache.
Each Live TV playback from an OTA source will cause a “recording” in the Plex transcoder temp folder.
So it actually doesn’t write to your NAS when you’re pausing a live TV session. It would only write to your NAS if you are explicitly recording. But even then only after the broadcast has reached its ending time. The recorded chunks of media in the transcoder temp folder are then concatenated and written in one swoop to the target folder on your NAS.
You can change the location of the transcoder temp away from the default (which is within the Plex data folder, which is by default on drive C: on Windows).
Settings - [server name] - ‘Show Advanced’ - Transcoder - “Transcoder temporary directory”
