Live TV stops playing after 10 minutes

Server Version#: 1.32.5.7349
Player Version#: 9.27.0.2856
Tuner Make/Model: HDHomerun Prime
Using XMLTV?: No

Hi,

I have a Chromecast with Google TV and am locally playing. I am watching Live TV and after about 10 minutes the feed stops and pushes me back to the guide. I then attempt to play the channel again and it last for a few minutes and stops playing again and pushes me out to the guide again.

If I watch the channel on the HD Homerun app I have no issues. I do not have a problem on Plex Web or on the Windows app on my local network.

I am wondering if anyone else has this issue.

Thanks.

Plex Media Server.log (2.6 MB)

So I have troubleshooted a bit in the last two hours and I can recreate this issue by opening up 5 Live TV Streams at once on the Web. When I open around that many the Chromecast with Google TV stops playing and kicks me out to the guide. This happened right around 23:00 in the first log.

I then opened the Live TV channel up again and it it would only stream for about 20 seconds before kicking me out to the guide (with the same 4 stream opened on the web). Below is the logs right after that happened (23:03).
Plex Media Server2.log (962.2 KB)

Having the Roku app streaming the same Live TV Channel does not have the same result, it appears to keep streaming while the Chromecast with Google TV stops.

Would love help troubleshooting this issue. It is really easy to reproduce.

This is still happening on 9.28.0.3162.

Same here. After 10 min. Playback stops.

HDHomeRun quatro here.

This can not continue like that.

Same version of PMS, LiveTV runs for multiple hours for me.

This just screams that you have a resource issue. I’d suspect a filesystem or a drive is filling up.

I think that’s easy to say. It screams for a bug… It’s funny and striking that two people of all people have the same problems, everything worked before the update.

Emby, for example, runs beautifully. Is installed on the same NAS…

Sorry. I would like to be clear. If I am watching the same channel and there are 3+ streams going of that same station at the same time, the only device that kicks me back to the guide is the CCwGTV. Roku, Shield, Web, Android Mobile, and Windows App all work.

That may be an important detail. It still may be a PMS resource issue, or possibly an issue in a PMS client subsystem.

Personally, I’ve never been able to 'cast to a Chromecast. It’s a feature that I pretty much don’t use as I’ve got Roku clients pretty much everywhere (might be an issue with multiple WiFi networks here, single VLAN.)

I found that only Plex for Windows streams are aborted. The browser variant is stable.

This isn’t a casting scenario. It is Chromecast with Google TV, so it has the remote and the Plex app itself. So when using the Plex App on Chromecast and watching the same Live TV channel as other users after about 3-5 concurrent streams on the server (of the same channel) it will kick me out to the guide and keep doing that until the concurrent streams go down.

Hoping for some official help from Plex.

Again this issue still persist.

Over a month later and no response from Plex support, this issue is still persistent on my CCwGTV. Please someone take a look.

I’ve been complaining about issues with Live TV on Chromecast and Android TV devices for over 2 years now.

The transcoder is extremely buggy, it doesn’t respect ANY bandwidth limitations you set on a server, transcodes files it doesn’t need to and often into files 3-10 times larger than the source material, and that’s if it transcodes it to a format the receiving device can handle, for example it STILL sends any live channels to a cast device in MPEG-2 format for some reason from the android app, but not the web app.

I’ve sent more logs than exist in all of Northwest Maine, and when I do get the rare response from plex, it’s “ill show it to developers” then crickets. Conveniently, threads here close after inactivity, so they can just wait it out and hope you go away unless you’re like the thread i’ve been following on one of these issues where the poor guy has posted an “any updates?” to a thread every week for over 2 years.

I’ve come to the conclusion they simply don’t care. They clearly don’t test ANYTHING on the android platform, and don’t care enough to attempt to fix things.

Since they have cut staff its only become even more quiet, other than the recent round of sending emails to innocent server owners and all of their users accusing them of being criminals charging for access, way to use that limited manpower, plex.

You know what works properly? ChannelsDVR. It’s no where near as pretty, and I still use plex for stored media, but it does the DVR/Live TV functionality worlds better than Plex ever has. And the developer actually does answer questions in his forums.

So this is still happening. It appears to not happen on CCwGTV outside my home network. So if it is remote streaming no issues happen, but if it is Home Streaming it fails after X amount of minutes (usually less than 10).

Do you see the status card show up in the dashboard after playback has started?

Yes it shows up. This error is easily produced, I just need to start about 4-5 streams and it will cut off the CCwGTV in less than 3 minutes.
