Live TV w/ Multiple HDHomeruns

This may be a question that needs to be asked at a later date, but I’ve thought about purchasing an HDHR Connect to go with my existing HDHR Extend. I’ll be watching live TV through my Roku, once that is made available, and I’d like the Extend to perform live TV duties because of the built in transcoder. I was just wondering if there is/will be a way to designate a specific tuner for live TV?

Excellent question! Inquiring minds want to know…

AFAIK, as long as the channel numbers are the same for both devices (and they’re supported of course), you should be fine. But if you’re using two devices that use different channel numbers (like a CableCard device like the Prime, and an OTA model), it won’t work…currently. As the guide can only handle one list of channels and currently they can’t be paired/teamed together. Like saying 4.1 (OTA) and 804 (Comcast) are both the same channel.

But I remember seeing that quite a few months ago, but also I haven’t seen any mention of a fix for this yet.

Currently, I don’t think there’s any way to dedicate a specific tuner to a specific task (such as live TV).

This may be a stupid question but… If Live TV is running using 1 tuner is the DVR part of this aware that Live TV is using that tuner and will choose the next available tuner for it’s recording duties?

@kgarland80 Yes, PMS is aware of what tuners are being used for what (and what channel they’re on), and will choose the most appropriate tuner it can.
