LiveTV channel guide locally unavailable when offline

Tuner Make/Model: homerun
Using XMLTV?: Yes

When my internet access is down, I am able to connect to my Plex server locally. I set that up in advance preparing for an outage.

Today that outage occurred and everything works except the live TV channel guide won’t even display. That might be expected normally with the channel guide connecting to to the Internet for it’s channel data (default setup) but in my setup I use a local server for my channel guide using xmltv. Using that and disquetv together with my homerun OTA tuners in the server.

The guide updates every night on the server for days in advance. The DVR/live TV for the Plex server was configured to point to this guide locally (annoyingly I can’t mix and match what each tuner uses. I would prefer to use the Plex default for the OTA and just my xmltv for my local custom channels, but I digress).

Everything works fine with Internet working, without it, the live TV channel guide is instantly unavailable.

I can tune a few of my live TV OTA channels if they happen to be in my recently watched list on the home screen. So I have a couple. Thus I know Plex is working fine and able to tune and stream the OTA channels.

Anything I can do to enable the live TV channel guide when the Internet is down? Even being able to channel up and down when tuned to an OTA channel would be nice. Then I can at least find a recently watched channel, tune it, then I could move through the list via up and down actions.

Thanks for any help or pointers.

@ProfessorBrianOblivion Even though you’ve setup everything to run locally, it still relies on your internet router to be functional if you’re not using a local DNS server for instance and also IP address allocation via DHCP instead of static.

My local router is fully functional and running DNS locally. I have the rebind config setup for Plex (went thru that pain years ago :-) ) etc…

Like I mentioned, the server runs fine without Internet. OTA channels will tune and play fine IF I can select it for play. Without the channel guide displaying, that is difficult or impossible. For example, if one of the OTA channels is under recently watched, I can pick it and tune that OTA channel no problem without Internet.

I should mention, this is Plex on a Sony Bravia TV client. I have observed strange and different behavior between different clients with other devices. Though in this case, the channel guide doesn’t appear on anything I own.

@ProfessorBrianOblivion That would indicate that something on the guide is requiring the internet in order for it to be populated, as you’ve stated if you select a channel from the recent ones then the channel can be viewed normally.

It’s just a case of figuring out what the guide is trying to access from the internet.
