HELPPP! Using LiveTV/DVR without internet connection?

Good morning,

I live down in Raceland, Louisiana. We are looking at being out of power and internet for at least a MONTH. I’m running a channel master antenna into a HD Homerun Quattro which is hard wired into my network. My Plex server is set up and running on my desktop. All hardware are hardwired. Is there a way to watch my DVR and access my LiveTV with out the internet???

Thanks in advance!

You will be running out of EPG data after about 10 – 14 days. From then on, you won’t be able to watch live with Plex.
You might be able to use Plex with already recorded videos, unless you are trying to switch user accounts.
Do also think about telling your web browsers to not discard cookies from plex.tv when they are closed.

Oh man. They may run out of guide data, but can they manually get guide data from other sources (cellular data for a minute) and insert that and use it?

Edit: I’m kind of curious how the OP plans to run and power a Switch/router, Plex server, DVR tuner, computer/player all without power.

If the OP has even intermittent internet on a cell phone, he can grab the EPG data as an XML file online (sorry that I can’t link to one, but I’m not sure what’s the best provider for those stateside) and then recreate the Plex DVR using the local XML epg data instead of the Gracenote online one.

As for how he can power those - residential solar or if he’s in a more rural area - small wind turbines when done properly can make a home essentially independent of the grid … unlike cell towers and ISPs

My house is run off a gas generator. I just wish I could access the LiveTV/DVR without internet connection on my LAN…

In a pinch, outside of PLEX, use VLC to at least access the streams.
Guide may be access via mobile from http://zap2it.com

If you can get XML guide data and manually load it, that could be a work around, but it would require deleting and re-adding your DVR. I don’t know what no internet access when adding a new DVR would be like.

There is also a way to use XTeve with HDHR and fill the guide will dummy data so it will at least be accessible in Plex, but it will require a bit of know how to set it up.

Of course, none of this would be an issue if it was possible to record by time/channel in Plex like customers have been asking for years now.

Or to reorder channels … or hell, to even just respect channel order imported from the tuner - somehow Plex can read and display the channels in the proper order when setting up the XML data, but as soon as you go in EPG poof
As for the OP - check this site out for info on how to grab an offline EPG (in XML format) for your server and how to (hopefully) set it up so it gets data in 5-7day chunks
