Local Direct Play randomly stuttering

Server Version#: Windows 1.25.9.5721
Player Version#: Shield TV 9.0.6.31998 (fa17c77a)

Hey there, I’m having an issue with playback of a 4k UHD file and I’m not sure where to start. It seems random, but initial playback starts fine which continues for 20-30 minutes until eventually it will stutter horribly and say my connection is not fast enough.

I’m on LAN, everything is hardwired. Content is on my Synology DS1621+ but my Plex server is on a windows laptop connected to the server via LAN.

There is no transcoding happening, it’s all direct play. When this happens, the bandwidth goes from an average 40mbps (pretty consistent) down to 0 with occasional blips on the dashboard graphs.

If I stop and resume playback, it will then recover for another 20min or so and fail again. It does not fail at the same point every time and I can close out and resume to have another 20min or so of playback.

File transfer speed is well over 150MB/s, so I would think 40-50mbps would be plenty doable and I have no other issues with my local network or accessing files on the synology.

What’s the best way to share/upload logs around the time of failure? Does anything need obfuscated prior to upload?

Any ideas?

Lots of discussion in this thread: Nvidia Shield Dolby TrueHD playback is borked.

Latest beta release seems to have fixed some of the problems.

Oh wow, I thought for sure it was on the server side - thanks for pointing me in the right direction. I’ll take a look at some of the info there.

Thanks!
