Local login fails "There was an error signing in"

Server Version#: 14.2.0.1
Player Version#: 4.65.0

Plex runs as a plugin within a jail. I updated both the NAS and the jail/Plex plugin.

I changed my password for my plex account and added two factor authentication, for some reason my local login remained unchanged. At first I was unable to remotely view any of my media, the error code referred to not having security settings configured properly…I checked the provided link and everything was configured as suggested.

For some reason today, I am able to access everything remotely but am unable to log into my plex’s IP. I tried the original password and the updated, it appears to accept the log on but then stops and claims there was an error logging in. The only thing I can think of is that there is a conflict between the two factor authentication not being requested when performing a local log in?

Any help will be appreciated!

if there is not a field to enter the two factor auth code then you can include it in the password field.

If your password is Elephant and the two factor code is 123456 then enter Elephant123456 in the password field.

I appreciate the reply, but no joy. I entered my password with the 2 factor code following and got the same there was an error logging in message.

That is not a server version number. Was it a typo? the current local Web app should redirect to the same auth pages as the remote one.

I’m receiving the same error today. In my case, I have not enabled two factor authentication. I log in, get redirected to my local Plex server, and then redirected back to app.plex.tv/auth which shows me “There was an error signing in”.

I’m running Plex server 1.24.2.4973 on an Ubuntu Linux host (no container/jail/etc., just plain Linux). I just updated today from 1.23.x to see if updating would resolve the issue. I also tried both Brave and Safari browsers with the same result.

I’m seeing this too

I had a gmail account and tried to SSO though I had an account from 10 years ago which messed that up.

Then I tried creating another account using a different email though I’m hitting the same “There was an error signing in” message

Does using a different browser change anything? Wondering if possibly has to do with cross domain settings or third party cookie settings of browser.

Same issue. Started on one PC (web logon) and is now affecting two PCs, one of which is my daily driver and has never had issues with Plex in almost a year of use.

Looks like Firefox works but Brave and Chrome do not.

Can you try adding [*.]plex.tv to site allowed to use cookies and check the “including third party cookies” option.

You can also check what the redirect setting is in Chrome ( not sure if Brave has the same)

the only other option i can think is is a CORS policy of browsers might be causing the issue which i think can only be set with an advanced flag

Can also check the browser console for errors ( make sure to hide any tokens if you post any of that here)
