Local media assets ignore title

Hey guys,

So I currently have local media assets at the top of my agents list, because I’d like my movie artwork to come from the local files that I store alongside the movies. However, when I do this, my movie titles get renamed to the original download title instead of their proper titles. I know this has to do with Plex looking at the local assets for the title, but I was wondering if it is possible to have the title come from an agent like Plex Movie, and the artwork come from Local Media Assets?

  1. check / enable Local Media Assets
  2. make sure it’s at the lower end of the agents in Settings > Server > Agents > Movies > [applicable agents, e.g. Plex Movie / The Movie Database]

If you put Local Media Assets at the bottom, won’t Plex use the cover art found online first? That is, the order of the agents determines how the metadata is applied, so local artwork would be the last choice, and would require you to manually select the local artwork each time.

I have LMA at the top, but I remove all of the metadata before I add the media, and local artwork is always selected automatically.

The new music system actually has a better way to handle this - you can choose local, online or both as a source for artwork. It would be nice to see that option move into other library types as well.

Yeah exactly. I guess I’ll have to wait to see if Plex adds this as a feature for more than just music.

or you could use something other than mp4 based files.

or you could clear the metadata out of them.

This… clear out the metadata (or even just the title field if that’s what you want) with a simple batch file. You can also convert the container from mp4 to mkv with a batch file as suggested as well

Edit: This can get you started
