Local media assets not working

I had a problem with my library and I re-added all my movies back to Plex. I have used MetaZ for all my tagging which include custom Genre’s. When I added the movies back, that info is not getting picked up and is used the movie.db genre’s instead.

Under Assets I have made sure Local Media Assets is first in the list, but that doesn’t seem to do anything no matter how many times I refresh the library.

Version 4.51.1

Version 1.21.1.3876

Running on OS X 10.15/7

Thank you for any insight!

You are setting LMA for Personal media. You need to set it for any agent you are going to use.

Also, refresh the libraries metadata not update library.

More info here.

I have that setup, unless I am doing this wrong.

No… That looks right. Did you refresh the libraries metadata too? This process can take a very long time to complete.

Not sure about MP4, but if the files are MKV, Plex doesn’t appear to read embedded Genre tags. I didn’t expect it to, because there are very few tags in an MKV that Plex uses.

For example, I have “The Birds (1963)” in my library, and it has the Genre set to “Thriller/Horror” embedded in the tags, as well as a Synopsis. and Actor/Role tags and a few others. The only embedded tags Plex uses are the Audio and Subtitle track names.

In this case, Plex shows the Genres as Horror, Drama. Romance, and Mystery. LMA is at the top of the lists in all agents, as it has been for the last 100 years. I’ve never changed the order. because it’s never given me any grief.

All my video files are mp4 and I used MetaZ for all the tagging. I tried the refresh and it still is not using my custom genres. I have had this working for years but when I had to re-create this library, it just seems to be uncooperative. I have the same setup for TV shows and those are working just fine.

I have been trying all day to get this fixed, but no matter what I do, the Local Assets are just ignored. Even if I go to Fix Match and then select Personal Media, it does not update to use my custom tagging (Genres). I have used it this way for years but when I had to re-create this library, it just broke.

I have a similar setup with TV Shows and there it works fine. Just not for movies.

Is this a bug?

Is there any way to reach Plex tech support? I have been trying to fix this for a week and no matter what I try, I cannot get Plex to read my Local Assets. I have had this working since I first installed Plex in 2013 and when I re-created this Library, it will just not see anything.

I just tried deleting the library and re-add it again but under Advanced selected Personal Media and this time it things changed but now almost everything is missing. No Genres or actors in the movie.

It is baffling. Is there anything in the log files that can explain this?

I am still having all sorts of issues here without any end in sight. Another problem I am now having is the posters are not showing when I go into an movie. If I edit the title and go to Posters, the correct one is showing there. However if you look at the title, it is showing a cropped version of the poster instead. It looks like a thumbnail preview dimension is being used.

Is there no way to directly reach Plex support?

I’m facing the same issue for all my local music videos. I downgraded to version 1.21.1.3876 Plex Server and 1.21.1.3876 Plex desktop. Not upgrading until this issue is fixed…

I do have a very similar issue point is i just wanna reorganize the whole library so i i start to create new routes for movies serials etc… point is the server does not allow me to delete my old library and put new always stay freeze i even delete my old account i create a new one but still threre all my olds files which btw are not working, i try to add new one in new acounts but nothing please help me

Is there a place to goto for older versions?

That is the version I have running now which is creating all these issues.

You have to refresh the webpage for the web interface and then they are visible again. One last step after I downgraded.

Unfortunately for my setup, it did not help any. I am stumped as this worked since 2013 when I signed up and all of a sudden it is having so many problems. Everything looks great if I go back to the default setup but then all the Genres are just a mess. Example, the movie White Christmas as a tag of Thriller! Grrr…

Does anyone know how to directly contact Plex? I still cannot get my library to work correctly.

Thank you for anyone who knows.

I was finally able to fix this issue, but you should not have to go through this much work. I deleted my install and then downloaded 0.9.16.6 and added my movies. Everything is the way it should. I then upgraded to the latest version, added a few new movies and they showed up just as they used to.

Hope this helps someone.
