Plex is using metadata tags while Local Media Assets disabled

Server Version#: 1.21.0.3616
Player Version#: Web 4.43.4

When adding TV shows to my server yesterday I had a problem with a large number of shows not matching. I used Ember Media Manager to rename all files and folders prior to adding them to Plex. The names shown were clearly not coming from the file structure. The obvious culprit was metadata tags, so I disabled the Local Media Assets agent entirely. Still the same problem, so I tried on another server as well, with the same result. I wasn’t able to find the name Plex was using until I tried MetaX, which showed that it was the ‘show’ tag in the metadata. I renamed ‘show’ and all is now working fine. The issue is that the tag should have been ignored with Local Media Assets disabled.

For additional info the problem occurred both on the Plex Media Server docker (from plexinc) and on a Windows 10 x64 desktop.

Re-enable the LMA, but drag it downards, below the TheTVDB agent.

Perform the Plex Dance with the whole show.
Is it still mis-matched?

What s the content of the Show tag? Was it the title of the whole show or the content of the episode (which would be wrong)?
If it was the title of the whole show, did it contain extraneous data, like language, release group or other spam?

What is the naming schema you used? Ember is by default producing a naming schema that’s suited for Kodi, and not for Plex.

The file structure I used is

\Show name\Season\Show name - S0xe0x - Episode name.mp4

for example

\Bodyguard (2018)\Season 01\Bodyguard (2018) - S01E01 - Episode 1.mp4

The name in the show tag, and Plex displayed, was

Bodyguard: Series 1

(this is one example, there were many others)

I’ve edited all the tags which has resolved the problem. I didn’t have to do the Plex dance, just rescanning the library was enough. The LMA was below TheTVDB agent and enabled when I first ran into the problem, and the problem persisted even when adding the files to another server with LMA turned off. This particular show had the year in the folder name and episode name, but others with the same problem did not.
