As the title says, I have alternate editions of movies and the local poster that I have does not automatically sync. Further, it doesn’t add a default poster either, the movie is just in my library with a grayed out poster (i.e. no poster). When I edit the movie within Plex and go to the poster, my local poster is first in the list and once I select it in this interface and save it, it has the poster. But I have to do this for most movies with alternate editions (not every movie though, which is odd). Here is an example of how I am naming my files.
Movies
Movie (2022) {edition-Special Edition}
Movie (2022) {edition-Special Edition}.mp4
Movie (2022) {edition-Special Edition}.jpg
I have also tried naming the poster file just “poster.jpg” and that does not seem to make a difference.
I don’t use editions myself but do use local artwork for all movies and tv.
Have you tried using poster.jpg instead of Movie (2022) {edition-Special Edition}.jpg ? Worth a try.
I have tried that and it’s the same result, still just missing the poster completely. Seems that it doesn’t make a difference between “movie file name.jpg” or “poster.jpg”.
Could be an oversight with the addition of this feature. Let’s see if someone from plex comments on the thread.
Edit: wondering does a plex dance on the movie make a difference?
I’ll be adding a couple of special edition movies to my server today. When the problem happens, I’ll give the Plex Dance a shot and report back.
It seems like this was just an issue for movies that were already on my server that I updated the naming for to reflect the new editions system. New movies that I add don’t have the same problem. So it seems a Plex Dance was the solution.
