I would like to see local playback of media added back in to the PMS and Plex app for the nvidia shield tv. I live in an area in Colombia SA that doesn’t have constant internet connectivity and need to be able to access my 10TB of content even when there is no internet.
I know that PLEX is moving towards streaming as the main function but there are still users that originally signed on to the PLEX eco system for local content as the main source of entertainment and need this function to work 100% flawless.
The Shield should already support being able to access your server locally without internet.
If you’ve used the app before, it will cache your credentials so even if the internet goes out it will still be able to access your server locally. If the Shield is somehow unable to access your server locally and is actually going out through the internet and back, then that will fail.
If you can provide me the log from the app when you have no internet, I can take a look to see whats going on.
I am changing this from a feature request to a discussion.
This might be what I need to understand a bit more. Under “List of IP addresses and networks that are allowed without auth” I did some editing and had “192.168.1.0/255.255.255.0,127.0.0.1/255.0.0.0,127.0.0.1/2”
Are you saying I should also add the static address of the Shield TV itself in here? Also perhaps I need to add my two router address in here?
if you don’t want the whole network to see it then yes enter the IP of the Shield. Like if someone comes to your house then they would just need to enter I and they would be like the admin
you have two routers? are the server and shield on different networks then?
The second router, we will call it router 2 is hard wired back to the main router, we will call the main router: router 1. Router 1 is the only one dishing out DHCP and router 2 is just really used to extend wifi in my all brick and cement construction finca here in Colombia. The Shield TV is on the same 192.168.1.#, 255.255.255.0 network as all my other gear and is hard wired to router 2 which is hard wire to router one. Router 1 is 192.168.1.1 and Router 2 is 192.168.1.2 and the Shield is static IP at 192.168.1.64
My two NAS drives are hardwired to router 1, actually one of the drives is really just a USB drive connected to router 1 which is shared out on the local network.
So should I just put in 192.168.1.64/255.255.255.0 or should I also put the two IP address of the two router, 192.168.1.1 and 192.168.1.2
Yeah I am not sure where those came from, perhaps from a thread I read on getting local access working when internet is down… not really sure… I’m very old and have a very bad memory…
You should not need to enter the IPs of the router. I would only enter IP of Shield and maybe the IP of the computer that you admin the server on when on that network. I don’t think you need the /255.255.255.0 just enter the two IPs separated by commas
I still have the same issue with these new settings. I can go into Plex access my material. I then killed internet, I could still access my content. As soon as I leave Plex or reboot the Shield TV I lose access to my content and just get the dreaded spinning wheel…
Do you have online sources enabled? Trying to think what it could be trying to load. What version number of Plex app on sheild are you running BTW, and what is secure connections set to on server.
I do this all the time as my internet goes out at least once daily and have a separate offline network which has my other shield i use for testing so am confused about what is going on.
Version 8.5.2.20133 for the app and 1.20.1.3252 on the server and set to Preferred under the “Secure connections” setting. Also "Enable local network discovery (GDM) is checked.
Not sure what you mean by “Do you have online sources enabled?” as I can not find a setting like that?
I disabled them all and still have the same issue. It will work for awhile and then as soon as I leave the Plex app and then go back into it nothing will load up, just spinning circle.
