Plex Server on Shield without Internet

I’m trying to be able to use my Shield TV and Plex to play local files from a USB drive that I have connected to it. I setup Shield as a server and got some files added from the USB drive to it. Everything works great if the WiFi is running and connects the Shield to the internet. But it stops working if I shut off the WiFi.

Idea is to be able to use this connected to my TV in my camper while traveling and just access the local ripped content I have. Don’t need to stream anything.

Is there a setting I need to change or is this just not possible for some reason?

The Shield Plex client may require online authentication. Some of the clients do, but I don’t have the list handy.

It’s been touched on a few times in this forum… how to get Plex running in an RV. I’m not sure anyone has found a good solid solution without an internet connection.

If you’re just running a single system connected to a TV, have you considered Kodi as an alternative? It was designed primarily as a media player despite the reputation. It might fit your need in this scenario if you’re only planning the single stream.

I did this to achieve what you want to do but I was still on a WiFi network even tho there was no internet. You could try it and see what happens when the shield is fully stand-alone and not even on WiFi. If the bit about identifying the IP range is critical to the Shield and it HAS to have an IP address then you could take a WiFi router with you too (there’d be no internet but you would have WiFi and it would assign an IP address in the specified range to the Shield).

Sorry I forgot the link!
