Nvidia shield - "app.plex.tv is unable to connect to "SHIELD Android TV" securely"

Server Version#:
Player Version#:

I have recently purchased a new nvidea sheild pro to use as a media server to stream video stored on a SSD hard drive.

However the plex web app is unable to connect to the shield and displays the message "app.plex.tv is unable to connect to “SHIELD Android TV” securely .

Any help would be appreciated.

That means you haven’t claimed the Shield PMS yet. Instead of using app.plex.tv, you need to use the local IP address for your Shield.

Thanks so for much for the input!

How do I go about doing that? Sorry, first time trying to set something like this up.

Appreciate the help (y)

See this article Opening Plex Web App | Plex Support. You’ll need to identify your Shield’s IP address. You can find this in the Shield’s main network settings.

I’ve located the Shields IP address under device preferences. I’ve entered this into a browser to access (similar to router) but does not load?

Did you enter the entire URL as mentioned in the article? Like this.

http://[Local Plex Media Server IP Address]:32400/web

Mate, you are a genius. Was ready to put this hunk a junk in the bin!!! Shield can now find content on the hard drive and I can now access the media through the web app!

Had no idea that you had to login through the shields IP address!

Thanks very much for taking the time to help (y)

That the case with any new PMS install. plex.tv.app can’t see you server until you’ve claimed it. You need to use the local IP to claim it.

How do you ‘claim’ the server through the local IP?
I am able to access PMS via http://[Local Plex Media Server IP Address]:32400/web
But when I go back to https://app.plex.tv it still shows “app.plex.tv is unable to connect to “SHIELD TV” securely”

Settings → Server_Name → General. If server in unclaimed state, claim it.

Plex is experiencing DNS issues today, affecting many clients, including Plex Web via app.plex.tv.

It may interfere with claiming a server or establishing secure communications via app.plex.tv.

Monitor status at https://status.plex.tv/.

I am now also experiencing the same issues.

I have checked the plex server status and all systems are operational.

However, I am unable to access the PMS via “http://[Local Plex Media Server IP Address]:32400/web”

“The site can’t be reached” and “IP address refused to connect”

Unable to access media content on the nvdeia shield or web app.

Please help! : ]

Look in the settings page of the Plex client app on the Shield to check if Plex Media Server is running. If not, goto the Shield’s app’s page and try running Plex Media Server manually. If that still doesn’t work, there may be an issue. You’ll need to grab the logs manually, Accessing SHIELD Storage | Plex Support.

I just started to experience this issue. I can log on from my Nvidia system. I can login from my iPhone but I cannot access the server from any of my apple TVs. the only thing that may have changed is the operating system on the Apple TV.

can you point me to the right direction to get this resolved?

also, when using my Mac, I can access everything via the IP address to the shield but when I go to app.plex.tv, I get an error message.

app.plex.tv is unable to connect to “SHIELD Android TV” securely

Its “Secure connections” setting may be set to disabled, or you may need to adjust some settings on your network. You can learn more about secure connections here.

? you mean you updated tvOS version?

have you restarted your server at all?

Yes. When I turned on my apple tv, it gave me a message that the iOS has updated. Then I wasn’t able to access my Plex server.

I run the server on nvidia shield. I restarted a few times.

Not sure what to try next
