Local Plex Connections are 'wan 127.0.0.1' and indirect on the same subnet/lan, letsencrypt related?

Server Version#: Version 1.19.1.2645
Player Version#: All of the clients in my home, sony tv, chrome browser, etc.

Of note, it seems like plex service has a different local ip address registered for my internal ip when I looked a json reply for one of my authenticated media files (based on a different support forum on the topic). I can’t seem to update it.

I also use a pihole local dns resolver, but it has worked fine with that as my networks dns server just fine before.

I also have an nginx proxy with letsencrypt setup. I have a domain pointed at the wan ip of my home network (dyndns) so maybe its related to that, but also the server has worked fine at this same location before without all clients being indirect.

I have a unifi network but have it setup now as a very basic 1 network no LAN firewall network. However its possible that they have restrictions in place that may prevent gdm or whatever.

I honestly believe that its strange that I see the plex direct urls that fly by the logs including a local ip range that I haven’t used for a long time (192.168.86.x when my network has been 10.0.0.x for over a month)…

I have server logs but they were set to verbose so they’ll be long, let me know if you’d like them, I did change them this morning to only be debug so the new logs will be right.

Note, I also have set the secure server connection to preferred. I tried disabled but then my local clients couldn’t see the server at all.

I think it may be related to this: https://forums.plex.tv/t/re-only-have-indirect-connection-to-my-plex-server-on-my-local-network/574854

Note my reddit thread has some troubleshooting info: https://www.reddit.com/r/Ubiquiti/comments/g19i7r/issues_with_plex_local_lan_clients_and_unifi/

I need logs to start an investigation - I don’t mind verbose provided the time period of the issue arising is covered

and try also to get logs covering the launch of Plex Media Server - so best to have debug logging enabled. restart the server and when the issue arises note the time and collect the logs

All these are potential problems and could be a factor.

Generally - use of indirect connections arises when the https local network plex.direct url is blocked within the local network - this is DNS Rebinding Protection which you may have on your router. Some routers have that - there is a section about it here https://support.plex.tv/articles/206225077-how-to-use-secure-server-connections/

To find out what routes the client apps have to the server and what urls they try out - see https://support.plex.tv/articles/206721658-using-plex-tv-resources-information-to-troubleshoot-app-connections/
