Local subtitles out of sync (run too fast) on Amazon Fire Stick

I have local subtitle files with my movies that play fine when I use Plex on my laptop.
When It try to watch the same movie with subtitles on my Fire TV stick (1st Gen.) the subtitles are heavily out of sync. It almost seems like they run faster. Even if I can offset them to the correct timing they will be out of sync within half a minute. Anyone has the same problem?
