I recently added the movie The Wailing. It is in Korean, with english sub-titles. If I play the movei on my computer the sub-titles display correctly. When I try to display using a firestick remotely - the text is sliced, with some appearing way over the the left, and some in the right spot. It is impossible to read.
I thought it might be due to a remote issue. When I try to use a different the latest Fire TV thing, on my local network, I get the same problem.
I’m not sure how the subtitles are stored with the movies. Basically the way I get my content onto my plex media server - I use Make MKV and make an mkv file of each movie. Then all the info is in that file. I don’t know if there is a better way - wish I knew a better way, so I can use it going forward.
if you are using makemkv from a DVD or bluray then likely an image based subtitle format like PGS. but if you can post your XML media info for the file we can see if we have one like it to try and reproduce.
Thanks for your help. In case you missed it - this file plays fine on my computer - just a problem when playing on with the Amazon Firestick. I’ll look into making a sample file.
i didn’t miss it. we have tried files with VOSUBS on Fire sticks and they played fine. that is why am i asking for a sample of your particular file since it may be related to something else in conjunction with the subs
Here is an update - I was trying to watch In Order of Disappearnce. Sub-titles were also messed up, just like the Wailing. I tried doing a optimized conversion to “Custom:Universal TV - 2.1 Mbps, 480p” from the original version I have which is “6.7 Mbps, 480i”
I wonder if the i vs p makes the difference? Ie interlace vs progressive?
