Hi there,
My NAS crashed (one of the four drives in my RAID5 failed and the array failed to build after replacing it; yes, I was furious) and I’ve had to rebuild my PLEX library. I thankfully take offsite backups of the actual PLEX media in case of fire/theft, but hadn’t been backing up the actual PLEX library itself. So I’ve had to let it rematch everything, which means all the manual tweaks I’ve done have been lost.
Anyway, I’m having an issue with some localised titles for a few films that I previously expect I just manually tweaked. I’d like to get them working properly rather than manual adjustments again.
I’m in the UK and want UK, not US, English titles. I have local media assets above everything else, Plex Media is the default agent , the library has ‘English’ as the language and ‘United Kingdom’ as the country.
X-Men 2 is a good example. PLEX has ‘X2’ as the films title from the moment it shows the film after ‘scanning library’ and I was expecting it to show ‘X-Men 2’, which is the UK title on the box and according to IMDB. The physical file is set to ‘X-Men 2 (2003).mkv’.
The first thing I found googling was mention of the title attribute in the file taking precedence so dragged local media assets below Plex Media in the agent list. I deleted the file, updated library, emptied trash, put the file back in, rescanned library, and right back to X2.
I’m a little confused as to where Plex pulls the localised title for the Plex Media agent. The advanced section has ‘The Movie Database’ as defaults for things like summary and cast list, but doesn’t say anything about title; so I assume IMDB. So shouldn’t this be showing X-Men 2?
Anyway, I thought, ‘why not just make use of local media assets to force the name’. So I opened the mkv in mkvtoolnix and found the Title is already set to ‘X-Men 2’. Local media assets was originally ‘first’ in the list, so shouldn’t this have been used from the start? I’ve moved that back to the top and redid the PLEX dance, but it’s still showing X2.
One point I should add - the mkv was originally from a DVD rip and today I got a bluray set of the X-Men films and ripped them. I can’t be sure the ‘title’ was in the original mkv, but it definitely is now.
Any advice on getting the UK title of ‘X-Men 2’ to be automatically chosen as the title in PLEX?
Edit:
Another example is ‘Cockles & Muscles’. Filename is ‘Cockles & Muscles (2005).mkv’ and there is no ‘title’ set in the mkv. Plex is setting the title to ‘Cockles and Muscles’. IMDB shows the title as ‘Cockles & Muscles’, which it says is the primary UK spelling (IMDB also shows an ‘alternative’ spelling with ‘and’). ‘Cockles and Muscles’ is the the title shown at The Movie Database. Yet the XML file would seem to indicate the IMDB agent is being used (at least, this is at the top of the xml: guid=“com.plexapp.agents.imdb://tt0428430?lang=en”). So why is PLEX using ‘and’ rather than ‘&’?
