Plex is always choosing the information of the file properties for creating the title (which in my case is a terrible misleading title). How can I force Plex to choose the title from an agent (e.g., TVDB, TMDB)? I disabled in the settings under agents the option “Local Media Assets (TV)” - however Plex is still choosing the title in the properties of the file. I’m very thankful for any hint. Thank you!
This affects only files in mp4/m4v file containers.
Edit your library(s)
go to the Advanced tab
disable the checkbox “Prefer local metatags”
If you are still using the old agents:
There is no need to completely disable local assets, as this will also disable external subtitles and sidecar posters.
Go to Settings - Server - Agents - Shows - TheTVDB
In there, grab the line ‘Local Media Assets’ with your mouse and drag it downwards, so it ends up being at the bottom of the stack of active agents.
Repeat the same under
Settings - Server - Agents - Shows - TheMoviedatabase
as well as under Movies
Or fix the embedded ‘Title’ tag in your files, so it contains sensible data.
You can use software like mp3tag for mass-edits.
Afterwards, perform the Plex Dance with mismatched episodes
or perform Refresh Metadata on shows which contain mis-titled episodes.
Wow, that was fast and solved the problem right away!
I don’t know if I’m using the old agents (hopefully not), however, I followed your suggestions and activated the checkbox and put it at the bottom of the list.
Thank you very much!
The Scanner selector on the “Advanced” tab in the library properties will tell you.
“Plex TV Series” and “Plex Movies” are the new ones.
“Plex Series Scanner” or “Plex Movie Scanner” are the old ones.
Ah ok, found it - I have the new ones. Does this mean that I should deactivate “Local media assets” in the agents settings?
No. Just disable “Prefer local metatags”.
Done! Thank you!
