Hey devs, this one took me a few months to figure out. I simply could not log into the plex photos app on android.
I eventually did figure it out. I use this app as my default browser, GitHub - LinkSheet/LinkSheet: Link handling for modern Android , the feature where it tries to grab the page title counted as my login request, and subsequent attempts to actually open the url were met with a redirect to the plex.tv home page.
It may be tempting to dismiss the issue as not-our-bug, but do note that over the course of several years, many other apps using this login strategy- including plex/plexamp/plexdash, this has never before been an issue.
Suggestions:
- Don’t invalidate the login url based on access (and, of course, don’t try to parse the useragent to filter out non-browsers; that’s not a game you can win)
- Be sure to provide errors, be it in the app or browser, when the process didn’t work. As opposed to a homepage redirect.
