Login with Safari 11.1.2 fails

Server Version#: 1.28.2.6151
Player Version#:
Mac: Mac Mini 3,1 OSX 10.11.8 (El Cap)

On Mac OSX 10.11.8 (El Cap), Safari 11.1.2, with PLEX Media Server v 1.28.1.6104, and now 1.28.2.6151, the Mac Mini which is my local managing/server computer just sits on a screen showing the plex logo against its dark background. Nothing happens. There are no buttons to click. No way to proceed past this window! Same thing happens when attempting to get to “Preferences…”, or trying to “Open Plex…” from the Plex wedge “>” on the menu bar.

From the same Safari browser, from the Online PLEX website, when attempting to sign-in, the white pop-up sign-in screen that appears is devoid of any content. Nothing there so can’t proceed to log-in. “Block pop-ups” is NOT selected in Safari prefs.

From the same Mac Mini I am able to launch PLEX on a Firefox browser (V 78.15.Oesr) but with a caveat that the Menu Bar has no content and has an error symbol.

I was able to get the server working again, been offline and lost since the password debacle, by clicking on one of the orange “!” error symbols on left side showing my grey’d out library content to get through the “claim server” routine.

have you tried a private window

Private window? Do you mean incognito browser mode? Not sure this old Safari can even do that and I’ve never done it, so unfortunately “green” in this area!

Ok, searched for how to do it. Found good Apple article on it. Tried it. Same result wrt PLEX window that opens up. Just plex on its background and otherwise dead.

Thanks BigWheel for the quick response BTW!

I’m on a Mac but I never use Safari, but on current Safari in the File menu there is a `New Private Window" options. which is the same type of thing as a incognito Window in Chrome

If your so inclined, I would try using Chrome Browser. Use the following as a start page and open your server admin page this way, not the Chevron in the menu bar or Dock as a way to enter your Plex Server.

I have been using this method without issue now for 4 years.

https://app.plex.tv/desktop/

Thanks for that info 56. I’ll see if I can locate an older copy of Chrome that’ll load and work on the trusty little Mac. Sucks to have to load on spyware Chrome. Don’t trust Google with any bits or bytes anymore.

Wonder if PLEX employee’s who know can address the implication that the server software will not function on older Safari browser?

I agree with you on Google front, but there are many options other than chrome. Way back with El Cap I was using firefox.

May have missed it in my original post, “From the same Mac Mini I am able to launch PLEX on a Firefox browser (V 78.15.Oesr) but with a caveat that the Menu Bar has no content and has an error symbol.”
Thus the only way I was able to resuscitate my PLEX server was bc of the old Firefox browser I was able to locate and successfully download/install. My preference was to locate an early copy of Brave (my first choice of an alt browser), but could not find one that installed, so off to Mozilla/FireFox for the next attempt…
