I’m trying to find a portable DVD player for my missus that can also run a Plex media player.
She’s not interested in a laptop to solve this though.
Are there any such devices out there?
Very unlikely. There used to be some Blu-ray players from Samsung with compatibility to a very old version of the Plex app, but these were not mobile and are long out of production and no longer supported.
All you can hope for is to find a portable DVD player with screen and a HDMI input, into which you can plug something like a Chromecast stick or Fire TV stick or similar.
Or rip all discs and add them to your Plex server. Then a tablet computer might do as a Plex client.
