Having an issue where I have downloaded the media server to my windows PC. When I log in, a pop up shows that there is an unclaimed media server. When I try to claim it I get: “Server settings are unavailable because the server could not be reached” as an error message. When I go into settings, under the remote access tab, there is a green check mark next to the public ip/port, but a red x next to the private ip/port. I am unsure how I should proceed in remedying this, so any help would be great.
It seems like your PC is having communication problems. Try a reboot, and if that doesn’t work, check your firewall settings (both router and PC). If the problem continues, do a reinstall(maybe, do this VERY last though.)
After claiming the server and getting the error message, I remove it from my list of devices, and then I relaunch Plex and am able to access the settings with the same “unclaimed server, would you like to claim it now” message.
You claimed the server, then removed it from Devices\Servers, relaunched Plex Web and got the same “unclaimed server message”? So you claim the server and now see the settings?
That all sounds correct to me. By removing the server from devices, you basically unclaimed it so you will get the “unclaimed server” message again.
I can go to settings prior to claiming the server, and thats where I see the green check mark by the public ip/port and the red x by the private ip/port. So if thats all normal becauve I haven’t claimed it yet, how do I get it to connect when I claim it then, instead of receiving the “Server settings are unavailable because the server could not be reached” error. I assume this has to do with

Ok, so this would indicate that PMS was unable to identify your local IP address and would point to a networking issue. Can you describe your network setup?

Because of the first issue, Plex Web is having issues connecting to that server. It’s best to get the network issue resolved first, but as a work-around you can try this.
In Plex Web, go to Settings \ Web \ General \ Allow Fallback to Insecure Connections, set that to either “On the same network as server” or “always” and see if that lets you connect. Your server may still have issues due to the first problem.

Cable modem, into an Asus router. Hardwired through wall outlet. Can try wireless, maybe that would work differently?
