Looking to make the switch from using macbook pro to DS1019+

I have been running the PMS (not a plex pass subscriber) on my 2017 MacBook Pro i5 with an external hard drive attached. I beam the content over to my Apple TV. The bulk of my content is h.264 MKV 1080p and 720p. I dont share my library with anyone outside of the house (and never plan on it) and I dont access my library outside of my house (I may if I get this NAS) This has been working fine for me, but I have the following gripes:

I have to password unlock my macbook pro first before I can connect to PMS from Apple TV.
I keep the external hard drive attached to MacBook Pro constantly, which defeats the purpose of having a portable laptop.

I really like the idea of having an always on NAS that can also be a PMS. I was looking at the DS1019+. Based on my content library of 1080p/720p h264 mkv files, would the DS1019+ be able to handle it?

Edit: if you think the DS1019+ is overkill for my use case, would a lower model meet my needs?

Thanks
