So new scanning agent is improved how? There is no option to choose the scanning agent that correctly matches 500+ episodes to the one single meta agent that has them correct and in the correct order?

So here we are again except I can’t match these unless I put up with messages that tell me how much better your “upgraded” scanner that wont match the files is…

If you need to rename many files:

Many people use Filebot. It is quite powerful and can rename an entire library in minutes.

Tiny Media Manager is also very useful, and free.

TMM Renamer Patterns:

  • Show Name: ${showTitle} (${showYear})
  • Season: Season ${seasonNr2}
  • Episode Name: ${showTitle} (${showYear}) s${seasonNr2}e${episodeNr2} ${episode.title}
  • Movie Name: ${title} (${year}) {imdb-${imdb}}

PowerRenamer in Microsoft Power Tools is helpful for simple renaming with pattern matches or regular expressions. It makes quick work of tasks such as adding a year to file names, removing undesirable text from multiple files, etc.

I used thetvdb as a guide to make sure everything is named right. All this is - is a recurring problem because someone at plex has a bug up their butt about using TVDB as a meta data source despite the fact they and they alone have the correct meta for Looney Tunes. Without manipulation and farting about its matching to - themoviedb who removed all their meta and it now matches episodes like you see them in the screen capture… Or have them match to the wrong show entiely.

This is happening because I upgraded the pc Plex is running on so I lost the customization to use theTVDB as a meta source and they changed functinality and where you need to change things yet again so you have to dig around to change things so it doesn’t want you to “upgrade” your library (go back to the non functioning default scanner) .

I got it fixed but I’m not posting the fix because if I do they will just change stuff again and remove the ability to match my single largest TV collection by number of episodes…

Thanks for contributing to the community. Or not.

“The fix” is rather easy, and not at all a secret.

  1. Follow the Plex documentation for naming and organization.
  2. Since themoviedb.org does not list the show, follow thetvdb.com for episode ordering.
  3. Enjoy Bugs, Daffy, Foghorn, Speedy, and the rest of the crew.

For the last year or two plex has been moving to an “our users are complete idiots” format for everything. When I updated I find volume leveling turned on for everything, plex wants to scan my music library and add volume leveling and worse on a library that already has track and album ReplayGain…

But for a check box that allows me to play 7.1 DTS-MA via my Roku because my ARC sink device is old and doesn’t support it, we wouldn’t be doing this as my level of frustration with plex has me running another media server in parallel that functionally, is what plex used to be for me.

It’s unfortunate as plex was the ultimate media server software. In their quest to make it install it and push the button and it works - they lost what once made it great…
