Sorry if I’m posting this in the wrong place, but the Category selection pull-down wouldn’t let me select NAS device and QNAP. I signed up for Plex several years ago and never really got around to setting things up, though I did install the server on one of my home Windows pc’s. I recently upgraded my NAS device to a QNAP TS-251A and decided to try and set up Plex on that device. I downloaded the latest version from the Plex website and installed it (shows up as PlexMediaServer 1.10.1.602 in the QNAP logs). However, when I try and launch the app in Firefox, it opens a new window but gives me the error message:
Secure Connection Failed
The connection to [xxx].myqnapcloud.com:32400 was interrupted while the page was loading.
The page you are trying to view cannot be shown because the authenticity of the received data could not be verified.
Please contact the website owners to inform them of this problem.
I’ve searched the FAQs and been unable to track down an answer (though I suspect it’s trivial, or hope so!). Thanks.
Don’t try to access Plex on your NAS through the myqnapcloud.com URL.
Use the IP address of your NAS in the local network for your initial setup. http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:32400/web
This was helpful for me because I had the same problem, but going to that page for me doesn’t detect the server on the top left, it just spins forever. Is there something you did to get the next step?
If you’ve not had PMS running at all yet, the easiest thing to do is to simply uninstall it.
This removes all the data files and allows you to start fresh.
PMS has a security mechanism that, when left unclaimed too long, effectively locks down security which is more difficult to establish control of afterwards.
Therefore:
Uninstall PMS
Install PMS
Start PMS
Immediately go to http:/ip.addr.of.qnap:32400/web on your LAN
Now start the Sign-in / Got It / Claim and setup process.
I uninstalled and reinstalled.
upon getting to step 3, there is no ability to start. if I click “open”, then it will just take me to the connection failed web page error.
I can go to that page you mention, but the problem is the same - no server appears.
but it doesn’t recognise any server on the left, just a spinning wheel in that area (screenshot attached)
on the qnap itself, clicking the app ico is the only thing I can do, and it will attempt to take me to the https version of that web page, which is not possible, because the web page is http.
Thankyou for the suggestion chuck, bbut there is no preferences file by that description in the path. I would suspect the server never even got to start.
