Lyrics Not An Option

Player Version#: Via plex.tv in Chrome browser, and Plexamp 4.12.4

I’ve had Plex Pass for years, and lyrics used to work - now the lyrics button doesn’t even exist for me in the Chrome browser or in Plexamp. I even uninstalled/reinstalled Plex on my Synology, but still no lyrics. Album art, posters, overall organization of my library was properly populated, but lyrics don’t appear for any of my albums. Refreshing metadata makes no difference. I’ve looked through all of the options in the configuration GUI, but none seem to reference lyrics. Per this documentation, lyrics should automatically download as part of the metadata and be available. Anyone have any ideas?

It appears that at least some items that were logged are getting lyrics:

Oct 08, 2025 10:14:15.080 [140584416897848] DEBUG - [Req#97227/Lyrics] Completed lyric search for album ‘Tupac: Resurrection’ in 228ms (found lyrics for 11 of 14 total tracks)

In the Web player you should see a little icon for lyrics as shown below, it will be greyed out if the track doesn’t have lyrics.

Similarly in Plexamp you tap the 3 dots on the player screen and then there should be an option in the list:

Thanks I was finally able to display lyrics again. Hopefully the OP did too.

I had to refresh all metadata on my music library then search my
Plex Media Server.log for found lyrics in order to locate an album that had them.
After that the Show Lyrics menu option appeared in Plexamp-4.12.4 on Mac, but for the previous hour I’ll be darned if I could find that. I was about to post it didn’t exist.

What I also found was if I resize the Plexamp window while the lyrics are visible, it causes the lyrics to disappear, and even though they are still enabled, I see only a blank space.
Even if I choose Hide Lyrics then Show Lyrics, they don’t reappear. Restarting the app won’t make them show again.

The only way to make them show again was to switch albums.
Again thanks been missing them.

Interesting, which platform is this on and which version of Plexamp? I tried it now but mine doesn’t do this.

Thank you, @drzoidberg33 ! I hadn’t noticed some song lyrics are being picked up. Is there a way to add another lyric scraper in addition to LyricFind? I’m noticing a lot of popular songs don’t seem to have lyrics.

Unfortunately not directly.
If you use some app or tool which can fetch the lyrics from somewhere else, then place them beside the audio files, Plex can pick them up.
Filename exactly like the audio file
.txt for untimed lyrics, .lrc for timed ones.
Ensure UTF-8 text encoding.

Got it. I’ll explore apps that can pull .lrc files directly into my library. Thanks for the tip, @OttoKerner !
