Mac / Harmony Elite / Plex

Hello!

New to this forum but not to Plex. Been hitting my head against a brick wall for a couple of weeks now. Checked using Search but couldn’t see an answer that helps!

OK, I am running Plex through a 2019 Mac Mini. All works fine but recently I bought the Logitech Harmony remote. Great bit of kit, and works great in Plex to browse menus and control a movie.

However, I cannot program the remote to turn Plex on. On my old Mac, I used the apple TV control and holding the centre button would start the Plex Media Player, but I just can’t manage to configure the remote to do this.

Probably more a Logitech issue, but thought I would ask on here first??!

Create a service through Automator to start Plex, assign it a keyboard shortcut. Flirc USB to pair remote to Mini. Works like a charm.

Hi! Thanks for the quick reply, apprecaite it.

Have gone through the steps again, and this time yes the service that I created through Automator does work, I used the Command+B shortcut. This works from the normal keyboard but not for the Harmony.

So once launched, the Harmony controls everything on Plex, but I am still struggling to get it to launch!!

Creating the shortcut is not enough, you need a way for the remote to communicate with your mac. Read up on Flirc, worth it in my opinion. When paired with your remote you can assign buttons to specific actions (mimics keyboard strokes, i.e. you can assign your shortcut to any available button on your Harmony). I have a Harmony 650, one button to start Plex and another to sleep Mac when done. Once you get the hang of the software it’s easy peasy.
