I’m running a Plex Server V 4.125.1 on a Mac Mini running Mac OS Monterey 12.2.1 (I don’t want to update just yet …)
I keep most of my media on a Drobo 5c with 50 tb of storage. It’s plenty fast enough, but slowly filling up!
It has been working fine for years and years.
I recently retired a Drobo B810n NAS and replaced it with a Synology DS1821+ a few days ago. My original SATA drives from the Drobo B810n are working fine in the Synology and I have about 80 tb of storage…
I use the NAS purely for backup of all sorts of devices here at home with Goodsync. I will use the my new Synology for the same thing.
I do not (yet) want to use the Synology as a Plex server. But would like to be able to keep some media on the NAS and add these files to a Plex library on the Mac.
My Plex server could see shared folders on my Drobo NAS with no problem, but not on the Synology
.
I’ve searched online and I can find that many others have the same issue with the newer Plex server software starting about a year ago? All the discussions seem to be around Windows PCs not being able to see NAS shares to add to Plex libraries on PCs. These aren’t much help to me.
Can anyone help me out here?
The Synology is a great bit of kit. It supports all major network protocols. SMB is supposed to be preferred, AFP is obsolete. I haven’t tried NFS yet.
Any pointers? Surelly this must be possible?
Thanks in advance.
