I have searched the forums and faqs and google-universe and am still stuck. If someone could nudge me in right direction, I’d be most appreciative:
I run PMS version 1.7.2.3878 on a Late 2014 MacMini running macOS Sierra with the media on a Synology 1815+ running DSM 6.1.1-15101 Update 4. I also have latest PMS running as a package directly on Synology. Both have worked flawlessly for two years with my lifetime Plex Pass membership.
Last week I bought and setup a HDHomeRun EXTEND 105633D9 Version 20161119. When I added it to the Synology package, it recorded fine.
However, the problem is that when I uninstalled it from the Synology PMS and installed the HDHomeRun on the MacMini, it can’t record because it says “No write access to destination.”
I left it alone for a few days because I assumed I had done something wrong. However, today I tested Live TV ability and it works perfectly.
So, clearly I am setup correctly and just have a write access problem for Plex on the Synology. Here’s the thing… I am not smart enough to know what settings to use for the permissions on the Synology to make sure the MacMini can write to that folder.
Make sure the user you are using to create the network mount on the Mac Mini, has write permissions to the folders of your media in the Syno config.
On the Mac Mini, Plex runs as whatever the user is you installed it as. So as that user, try to copy a file into the TV Shows and/or Movies folders you’ve configured in Plex. If they fail, it’s permission. Go into the Syno configuration page and then make sure that the user you’re using to login to the Syno from the Mac Mini has correct permissions, should be a screen like this:
I have confirmed that the user on the MacMini does have read and write permissions to the media folder. I also was able to copy media into all of my Plex media folders. That’s what makes this so confusing.
The “plex” user is the Synology package and “jeffparker” is how I am logged onto the Synology from the MacMini.
In spite of this, it still shows no write access when I try to record. Any other thoughts on what I could investigate? Thank you!!!
“Videos” is the Synology shared folder which contains all of my Plex media. I have confirmed that all sub-folders inherit permissions from the “Videos” folder and all show Read & Write access.
