I have an Intel NUC setup and have noticed major CPU usage by PMP when it is doing nothing. I always leave PMP running on the NUC and just switch the TV off (the NUC also acts as my PMS so I dont have a problem leaving it always on).
I notice this because when I walk into the room in the morning I hear the NUC fan running at 100% . I checked windows task manger and saw PMP using 60%-70% of CPU resources. This happens very often and now I have just decided to close PMP after each use (i dont like doing this this as I like to have it appear when I turn on the TV).
Any ideas, I can provide logs when I get home, if necessary.

That’s interesting. I have not seen that myself. A log might tell us something, otherwise we need some profiler to run. Unfortunately my windows machine broke recently and I am waiting for spare parts, but when I get them I will make sure to leave it running for a long time and see if I can reproduce it.

Oh it might. wonder what makes that screensaver so damn expensive.

I will turn off the screen saver and keep an eye on the CPU usage.

I realise the original post is regarding an older version of PMP, but the latest 1.2.1 version running in Desktop mode (on MacOS Sierra) continues to have high CPU usage even when idling as long as the main PMP web-view window is partially visible on the desktop.
The “Plex Media Player” process ranges from 2–8% (fine I suppose), but the “QtWebEngineProcess” hovers from 25–50% as long as the window is visible, and dropping to 6–10% when it’s hidden with cmd+H.
Should this be chalked up to the ongoing development with optimisations yet to be made, or is this a bug?

Yeah that does sound high. I have not seen usage like that. Can you try to open up the web-client in chrome and see what CPU usage you see when idling on that?
Do you play music or something like that when the CPU usage goes up?

Google Chrome hovers at 0,6–2% when idle, and “Google Chrome Helper” is at the same level. They both go up to 4–8% when playing music.
The idle numbers from PMP are without any activity other than having the window open and partially visible on the desktop. No music, no movies, no moving cursor in/out over items. The “Plex Media Player” process goes up a bit when playing music, pretty equivalent to the Chrome figures above.

Interesting. I don’t see those numbers on my machine - so I wonder what’s going on here. Can you maybe share a log?

@tobiashieta – I’ve PM’ed you the PMP log file. Thanks for having a look at this.

I know it’s been a long time since this was openen, but it’s still an issue on Mac OS Mojave and PMP; same symptons as Morten_A describes; when playing Music it hovers up to 60-80% (the QtWebEngineProcess). The same problems do not appear when playing in Firefox or Safari; don’t have a Chrom(e)(ium) based browser on my system at the moment.
It’s not constant though; it happens in bursts of 5-10 minutes, and then the CPU is not as much anymore.
