Making Playlists is SO Much More Difficult Now + Music Player is NO Bueno!

long time plex owner… love the platform… but the achilles heel has always been the way it handles music. it’s easily the worst feature of the whole thing and now, it’s even worse than ever.

because the plex music player is so bad, i organize my music so that if there is a playlist i want to make, i add all those songs to specific folder, go to the front end, choose the jukebox, then using the drop down i choose ‘sort by folder’ (not artist or track). this will give me an overview of all the music folders i have on the server… there USED TO BE a little icon on that folder and i was able to create a playlist based on all the songs in that folder… this was my work around and i was happy to have figured out a way to make it all happen…
…however… this is no longer there and i am unable to make the playlist i want (of say 1000 songs) EASILY… what. a. freakin. PAIN. in. the A$$!!..

some might say, "ok, then go inside the folder and view all the tracks in that folder, then click the circle to the left of the title track at the very top—> scroll on down to the bottom and hold down shift then click the circle to the title track all the way at the bottom—> then ADD TO PLAYLIST.
and yes, that COULD work…
but i don’t know if it’s because there are too many songs in these folders (700 songs is too much??), but this doesn’t work either… it doesn’t fill in the other tracks.

i have tried tooling around with the “advanced filters” but this is smoke and mirrors not helpful at all. are there any plans on the horizon to completely overhaul the music player??

why can we not add our own sorting features? why are the layouts and features completely different if you view as folders or tracks or artists…etc… we need to be able to have more categories that we can choose to add to our header that WE can decided to sort from. (haha… you give us COUNTRY, Style and MOOD!!! haha)

MusicMatch was one of the best music players made… MediaMonkey is another great music player to try and emulate… please do something in this area, it’s awful.

…but as for now, until 2035, what can i do about this playlist situation? thoughts?

Not saying your use case / request isn’t reasonable – though from what I’ve been seeing, folder based organization and management is not where Plex is heading (not saying they might have some big plan to rework that – I’m simply not aware).

As for selecting the entire content of a folder (same as with any other list, e.g. if you’re displaying your library by all tracks):
It’s been noted sometime before that the way the web-app loads the content of a view, doing a select-all is a bit “delicate”. It’s not enough to just scroll to the end of the list… you’ll actually need to do it slow enough so Plex will keep loading the items in-between. With that in mind I’m having no issue selecting my entire library (just tested it with 2k+ tracks – which isn’t super large but good enough to confirm it’s actually working).

I’m not arguing this could be improved – however, given that’s not an everyday use case, I’m ok with once in a while slowly scrolling through a huge list.

yes, you are correct - the only way to make a playlist now is to scroll slow enough to the bottom… and that’s just to get the songs INTO a playlist - this has nothing to do with creating an order of any kind, which is beyond brutal.
i have given up the idea of doing this properly and just grabbing a thousand songs or so, throwing them into a playlist and hitting shuffle. this is all the plex music library CAN do reasonably, or COULD do as this is a big headache.

not sure why you would take it away. it wasn’t a nuisance, it wasn’t cluttering up the UI. it was a very simple thing that did a lot.
