Is the ability to create a playlist from a folder gone from plex?
I just had to completely start over because of a separate issue with the music library, and now
after 3 days of getting everything back and running, I tried to recreate some of my music playlists
and I can no longer find the option. I used to do this all the time, music, browse by folder, then add to playlist.
I can no longer do this on any client. I know I have not done in since the last server and plex web update,
is this a feature that was removed, or is something different about my new install?
Hello… come on, I pay for support through my Plex Pass, why can I never get any help from Plex.
No, you don’t pay for support. You pay for access to to more features and early access to the free parts.

Oh give me a break, you’re kidding right, early access to beta features but no help when there are issues.
Access to a members Plex Pass forum, but no help…
How about helping instead of pointing out semantics, any idea where the playlist when viewing folder feature went?
You can’t create a playlist from Folder view. I don’t remember this ever being possible, but then again, I don’t normally use Folder view.
I did this many times, but, indirectly I guess.
Since plex doesn’t have shared playlists, I created folders of top 40 songs, then my kids could view by folder, and then add all files to queue. I guess that is the feature that is now missing…Play all, or add all to queue, I don’t remember the exact wording, because the option is not there any more.
Once the files were all in the queue you can open the queue and click ‘add to playlist’.
I 100% never added all the files one by one, which I still can do, somehow I was able to add all files to queue, this is the feature that is missing.
Which client are you using? You can still do that in Plex Web. When viewing all the songs in a folder, you can multi-select all the songs and there will be a “add to playlist” button on the left side.
In the Android app, you can’t multi-select so it’s not possible. If this is what you mean, I’ll have to look if it was a change as I don’t remember if this was possible before.
That’s how I did it, thanks.
Of course this doesn’t update if I update my ‘Top 40’ folders, everyone using my folders to create playlists, needs to delete and recreate playlist.
Do you know a way to do this? Updateable playlist.
You really need shared playlists.

Plex Web or Android?
To auto-update a playlist, you need to make a smart playlist. You can do this be adding tags (moods) to a track from Plex Web, something like Top 40. Then for the user, change the view type to tracks then set a filter for Top 40. Then without specifically selecting any of the resulting tracks, hit Add to Playlist from the sidebar. Now you can add/remove the Top 40 tag as you wish and evryone’s playlist will automatically update.
sharing playlists is something that’s been asked for and something we hope to be able to offer in a future update.

This sounds like how I could do it, but I don’t understand the mood settings whatsoever, they are too obscure to mean anything to me. I played with them and don’t see how they tie to songs at all. I used to used songza and you used to select 'Happy in the morning" for a mix, how would I create something like that with plex, and can you then tie Genre’s in to it?
How would I create a top 40 playlist by moods? It would work if I could add a mood called “Billboard Pop Top 40”, and then tag the songs with that, but I don’t see how to add a mood?
I only suggested using Moods, since that is the only editable field for a track. Use Plex Web and browse to the song you want. You should see a pencil icon when you hover the mouse over it, click it. You get a pop-up, select Tags on the left. You will then see a Moods box. Enter the name you want to use in there and save it. Repeat for the other songs, you can do this at any time. Just do 1 song for now.
No go back to the start of your music library. Change the view at the top to Album. Then on the left, click the 3 lines icon at the top. This brings up the filter menu. Select “New Filter” then Moods. Find your new Top 40 name and select it. Don’t worry about the other moods. You should see the list of track change and show the track you added. If you had labeled all 40 songs, you will see 40 songs here. The procedure is similar on the Android device too. As long as you don’t select individual tracks and “Add to Playlist” from the sidebar, it will be a smart list that auto updates.
Back on the sidebar, you should see the option to Add to Playlist, select it.
That works ok for now, thanks. Just no way to order them.
Shared playlists will be much better, glad to hear they are being worked on.

I can create a playlist from a folder in just 1 click and so can you!
