Can anyone suggest the best setup for me - as my current one doesn’t seem to work! I DVR some episodes that I want to watch immediately - and they end up in a section called TV Recordings on Plex. I download some of these same episodes later on when there is a higher quality version with commercials edited out etc. These go into a separate section TV Shows. Both sections point to different folders. However, when an episode has been scraped or added to the DVR section, it will no longer be scraped or added to the TV section. I think Plex ignores the better version because it exists elsewhere on Plex - albeit in another folder and section. Even though I delete the DVR version when watched - Plex does not seem to add the episodes to the TV shows high quality section. Does anyone do something similar - successfully? Thanks. I should mention that every other show is scraped perfectly. I only have a problem when I DVR and then download a show.
When you are talking about “sections”, I assume you mean a Plex library, right?
Are you saying that you are downloading a HQ version of the episode and then copy it into the folder, which is “watched” by the Plex library for the high-quality shows?
Sorry for asking, but did you check that this file is adhering to the naming guide lines? https://support.plex.tv/articles/naming-and-organizing-your-tv-show-files/
Deviating naming methods may work for a while – until they don’t.
- If your server is running on a Linux-based operating system, did you check the access permissions of the added episode(s)?
- Are you downloading directly into the folder which is scanned by Plex? Don’t. Always use a “staging” folder until the file is completely downloaded and named as it’s supposed to.
- Are you using the Plex feature which deletes “watched” episodes automatically? Once activated, it isn’t restricted by library boundaries. If the same show does exist in other libraries on the same server, the watched episodes are deleted from these libraries as well.
Hi,
Thanks for your reply. I record a show with the DVR - and save it into the plex library into a TV Recordings folder and Library (I called it section last time - sorry). This works great. There are some shows that I DVR that I also want a HQ version of. I have another TV library (TV Shows). This is where I keep shows I want to keep. Most are ones I have downloaded only - and it works great - my naming is fine (Sonarr does a great job). My problem comes from when I have downloaded a high quality show that I have previously DVRed. Plex seems to ignore the HQ version - because the DVR version is also (or was) in another plex library. This is what I assume - as it only happens when I have a DVR copy prior to downloading a copy.
I had this happen with a Simpsons season. For some reason, one season in my perma-keep “TV Shows” library was missing. Eventually, I found the missing season in my “DVR - TV” library, where I record the current season off my antenna. Even though the DVR library does NOT scan the folder for the main show, Plex still got confused and conflated the two libraries for The Simpsons. The “Get Info” for the older HQ season that was in the DVR library showed the proper path - A path that the DVR library does NOT crawl.
This I think is what happens to me. The shows do not appear in my perma-keep(good term!) TV library - but stay in the antenna library. The strange thing is - if I delete the show from the antenna library - they still do not appear in the perma-keep library.
I needed to Plex Dance that season to get it to show up in the right library.
