Managed Users Cannot Access Single Shared Media

I’m reopening this topic from here as it’s been closed for some time, and not the same issue as before.

I want to share a single item with my young children that do not currently have access to it.

I have their local managed profiles set to “Younger Kid” and sharing media Libraries: Shows & Movies.

Younger Kid is limited to “TV-Y, G, TV-G and equivalent” by default. However, there are some Shows and Movies that are PG that I want to share. When using Grant Access, these items appear under Media and should not be restricted based on the Library restriction considering it’s begin shared by an Admin account (mine).

When using this method, they can’t see it. Grant Access wants to SEND a request… however, local managed accounts don’t receive email messages to accept requests.

Sharing internally shouldn’t generate a request in my opinion. They should just see the content that I’ve granted access to them.

The only workaround is to reduce the Content Rating which is an unacceptable and counterproductive method. I may not want to share a given title with all the kids, just one.

Is this even possible with Plex, or just another Internet only based feature?

Thanks…

You should be able to simply select them from your Friends/Home user list. Entering an e-mail address (or account name) is only needed if you want to share individual items with a user with whom you’re not yet sharing.

It is intentional to not accidentally share for example a playlist that has something in it that is not in the allowed restrictions.

You could use labels , allow the label in restrictions, and then add the label to individual things you wish to share with them

managed accounts don’t have emails. they are not local and never have been
