I absolutely love Plex, but I have had one issue for a while that I haven’t been able to resolve.
Setting up remote access. If I use the dynamically assigned port that Plex Media Server provides (ex. 19642) and setup a port forward on my router for 19642 then my server is fully accessible outside my network. This is great, unless that port changes, which it seems to from time to time (not sure what actions cause the port to change.)
Here is the big problem. If I leave the port forward set to 19642 and click the checkbox to manually specify 19642 as the public port and click retry, it says it is available for a brief second, then changes to “Not available outside your network.”
I prefer not to use uPnP for security sake and would rather not debate the merits either. Is anyone aware of a solution for this issue? Why would the same port work when Plex dynamically assigns it, but stop working when statically assigned. I have tried numerous statically assigned ports and have never had any success.
After you have things configured and see the available / not available change, try stopping & restarting PMS.
After restarting PMS it is available outside my network.
Sounds strange, and cannot explain why, but it works for me.
@FordGuy61 Thank you, this absoultly worked! I’m on the latest 1.14.1.5488 version and this is still an issue. Oddly enough, when PMS says it can’t connect via the internet, canyouseeme.com does say it is successful to connect.
Plex, please fix this bug
I have the same problem but restarting the media server didn’t fix it. I’ve got two media servers, one running on Windows 10 and the other Synology NAS. By changing the port forwarding on my router I can make either server be remotely available (but only one at a time). However, when I try a different port, such as 32401 I see the “Fully Accessible outside your network” for about 2 seconds and then it returns to “Not available outside your network”. I am obviously also port forwarding 32401. Suggestions would be most welcome. One interesting note: canyousee me will give me “connection timeout” sometimes on port 32401 (not always).
