Remote Access with manually specified port

I want a static public port so i checked the manual option and set the port to a static external value, IE: 22599. The server has a static internal IP, Port forwarding from 22599 to the PMS was configured on the router to point to this host, and i am able to connect via uptimerobot, check-host.net, and CanYouSeeMe.org… yet Plex still says I am unconnectable.

If i turn off the manual port option, the system configures itself and is again connectable.

Any tips? Thanks

Did you port forward (TCP)
from
22599 external (internet-facing side of router)
to
32400 internal (LAN-facing side of router, IP of plex server machine)
?

https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/200931138-Troubleshooting-Remote-Access

correct, the internal port is 32400.

22599 > 32400 TCP/UDP

UDP is not necessary

Sorry for these questions, just making sure because I have already seen some very confusing router GUIs:

  1. Are you sure you did not confuse the input fields for external and internal port numbers?
  2. Are you sure you did actually create a port forwarding and not some related feature like a ‘port triggering’ or a similar-sounding feature?
  3. after checking the checkbox and putting in the external port number, you must have some patience. Wait at least 30 seconds after a click on ‘Connect/Retry’ and try it at least 2 or 3 times - always with plenty of time in between. Or simply let it sit overnight.
  4. check if your router has a firewall. Some models require a manual allow rule for a manual port forwarding.
  5. do also check your Plex server’s firewall: https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/201543147-What-network-ports-do-I-need-to-allow-through-my-firewall-

It might be, that the time between you posting this question and my answer was already enough time (see 3) )
I can see your server as ‘published’ and accessible.

Great questions, and I did triple check the internal to external mapping on my router. I have other services on this server and I am able to access, and they are configured along the same line (obviously a different port).

1&2. Config is correct on the router, forwarding External port [22599] to internal 32400. The Rule was created under the ‘port forwarding’ section of my router config, and the config falls in line with other services also configured for port forwarding (and they are accessible).
3. I tried several times and even tried other port numbers (reflecting these changes on the router)
4. There is no config for firewall on my router (Google wifi) but i do have other services forwarding fine and accessible right now from the outside. (remember, If i turn off the manual port setting the server is reported by plex as accessible. )
5. I checked the firewall and all services listed: DLNA, Media, Scripting, and Tuner are all configured for Allows across the board on: Network = Private/Public/Domain; All IP, All Protocol, All Ports

FYI, 22599 is not the real port i am using, but it is a 5 digit random number that should be in range. Uptimerobot, check-host.net, and CanYouSeeMe.org are able to connect to “[my-public-ip]:22599”.

Did you see my last sentence above?
Your server is available remotely now.

Interesting. I had been refreshing the page and the result was still the same: ‘server not accessible outside the network’. I killed the browser (Chrome) and reloaded… the remote access panel now reports the server is accessible. So one of the issues may have been with my browser. Thank you for your help!
