Unlike with most other media servers, for instance, Jellyfin, Plex does not recognize Marantz PM7000N as a player on the network. This makes it rather useless as an audio server.
Am I doing something wrong? Is there some profile or settings that are wrong? Or is Plex simply not capable of such an, apparently basic feature?
I feel like I am probably not qualified to answer, so ignore my post if it’s completely ignorant. I’ve not heard of this Marantz receiver before today, and after a bit of googling I’m still pretty clueless about it.
But I saw something about how Jellyfin serves content to Marantz’s using its DLNA service. Plex does have this service, but it can be disabled. Do you have DLNA enabled on your server?
I may be confused, since you are asking why Plex doesn’t recognize the Marantz as a player, when I THINK (again, based on my ignorance of this device) it’s more like Marantz cannot see the content provided by Plex. It’s not that Plex ignores the device, but more like the content seems to be provided in a form that the Marantz may not be able to read. DLNA should work, in this case.
You can ignore my post if I am wildly off the mark. I just didn’t want this post to go unanswered, so I’d suggest the one thing that came to mind.
Thanx for your contribution but it is actually the opposite. The Marantz player and its HEOS app can see, play and control music served by PLEX fine. The problem is playing cannot be controlled from PLEX app because the player is not recognised in it thus one cannot select it.
This means one cannot control playing from a computer interface that is much more convenient than the little smartphone HEOS app.
It seems to have the ability to control my Android TV Video player that is probably more complex than the audio player.
Yes, in Jellyfin I can select my Marantz player and control it. However, it is a tad buggy and Jellyfish support is rather weak.
I think if Jellyfish can manage to implement this PLEX should be capable too. Otherwise, their whole music campaign is a bit without purpose. Namely, why do I need a fancy music library interface If I need to either send it via AirPlay or control it from app like any other micro music server?
