Mass Delete Collections / Movie Collection Locking

Server Version#: 1.20.3.3483

I’m wanting to mass scrub my movie collections away and refresh them all with the new movie agent with a minimum movie number of 2+ for collection formation. currently there are about 580 in my library and a good chunk appear to all be zero or one movie collections. I have no custom made collections at this time and pretty much never paid attention to or used them up to this point.

I’ve noticed when I delete a collection that contains movie(s) through the webui, all movies in that collection will have their collection field locked. I assume this is to prevent it getting put back into the same collection on the next metadata refresh.

Well this sort of foils my plans to rebuild them from scratch as those locked fields won’t be repopulated unless I keep track of every movie and unlock it again after…

Anyone tried to do this, what are my options? Am I missing something glaringly obvious here?

  1. Mark all your movies (mark the 1st item, hold Shift and click the last item)
  2. Click Edit
  3. Click the lock on the Tags > Collections field
  4. Save
  5. Repeat steps 2-4, this time undoing the lock

But this would require me to know the contents of all 580 collections prior to deletion, and then go into the library view and select them all non-sequentially out of several thousand other unrelated movies…Surely there has to be an easier way?

Or maybe I’m just totally misunderstanding what the procedure outlined above is meant to accomplish.

You don’t really need to know. You can use those steps to clear the collection tags from all movies independent if they have one or not. Following those steps you’ll be doing this for all movies at once.

Oh duh. Yeah it just clicked after reading your reply for the fifth time. OK yes so it was something obvious haha.

Thanks for the help. I hadn’t been following the new library stuff very closely and on a whim tried it out on one of my two servers.
