This is why my new file naming scheme contains TMDb movie ID or TVDb series ID in the ‘extra info’ part of the file name. I wish they would just integrate a regex pattern matching for ‘tvdbXXXXX’ and ‘tmdbXXXXXX’ (with XXXX being the ID) and require it in the name. Would eliminate all these matching issues.
The whole idea is that users shouldn’t need to know where the matching is coming from. The ID’s are used to help incase the match can’t be made. To have that be required would make things more accurate but also a lot more complicated.
Have you tried the new scanner and agent to see if the matching is better? New Plex Media Server movie scanner and agent preview - #120 by rossinior
I have not tried the new scanner, and I guess required was the wrong word. Suggested is a better word; if you want to make sure matching is correct, add the tag to the file name, otherwise, let Plex figure it out. I don’t mind adding an extra tag to file names to ensure that matches are always correct.
I can count on one hand the number of incorrectly matched files I’ve had, so the current system works very well. Not complaining about the scanners, just possible improvements, extended features for “power users”.
