Match Failures

Don’t add the year at the end just to have it there. It doesn’t work the same as movies. The idea of having the year for TV shows is to distinguish it from a different show with the same name. Unfortunately, TheTVDB’s latest API changes have problems matching when you use a year and there isn’t a need for it. The manual search works, because that searches a slightly different way.

when it gets no results, perhaps the auto search method should fall back to manual search method then ?

That might be possible, but the manual method is quite a bit slower. Falling back automatically everytime could result in a library scan taking a…l…o… t… longer if there are a lot of new shows involved.

Perhaps, but generally that type of search only happens ONCE, either when the content is first added to an existing library, or a new library is created/scanned.

this should not affect any rescans of existing content (they are already matched!)

TheTVDB agent is already breaking out the year (if provided) into a separate search field. Given the file path:

D:\Media\TV Shows\DAVE (2020)\Season 01\DAVE (2020) - s01e01 - The Gander.m4v

Results in the following in its agent log:

2020-03-06 15:29:48,726 (1924) : INFO (agentkit:957) - Searching for matches for {'openSubtitlesHash': '588bb80b132c4a35', 'episode': '1', 'episodic': '1', 'show': 'Dave', 'season': '1', 'year': '2020'

If no results (or no results with a high enough confidence) are returned, could it not just fall back to repeating the search, but without the year? Or just the opposite: Search without the year first and if ambiguous results are returned, search again with the year? It’s already done the work of parsing the file name into its constituent parts (show name, season, episode, year).

The show was created 3/9/20 and modified today 3/12/20 <— unknown how much, but nothing seems to find it - (YEAR) field or not.

I’m resisting the temptation to hand edit it - 'cause I’d really like to watch one, and may not survive long enough to hit play - before my OCD locks me up tighter than Richard’s Hat Band.

If I make it - we’ll see what happens tomorrow…
Today - this show doesn’t exist.

Figures… Filebot found a new show, but TVDB has other ideas.

Season 02 naming finds it.

Personally I’d rather have it a new series myself, but tvdb gonna tvdb.

I knew I was in trouble when Filebot couldn’t find it - until I went to TVDB and got the name, named the files - then FileBot found it…

Plex couldn’t find it - at all - without the TVDB ID#

If you ever see anyone associated with this show’s naming - slap them - open handed, in front of all their friends, fans and freelance facebook icons, like you would slap a purse snatcher in front of the lady who’s purse was snatched… don’t stop slapping them until they cry and pee in their pants. You will go to prison - totally worth it…lol

That’ll be fun, but I think this one is a Fix Matcher - with the ID# - for ever.

Interesting. Plex found it using the The Movie Database agent immediately:

They’ll pry using the release year in the directory/file names from my cold, dead hands.

You and Techno are the Stubborn Dynamic Duo…lol
(I switched Filebot to use whatever name TVDB is using - officially - flip side of the coin thing)

I looked at both and decided more of the Actor Images at TVDB would fit in Plex’s Head Chopper 9000.

I was right on the verge of invoking the Personal Media Hand Grenade when I stumbled blindly on the above.

Just a for your information notice, 'cause I’m afraid if Plex tried to fix that we’d all be using Fix Match 100% of the time, so let’s just let this puppy nap.

Auto match doesn’t work
Fix match with IMDB ID:

with or without year:
No match found.

I haven’t tried renaming the file to the english title, as I would hate to have to lose the original title, and because all other french movies are normally easily matched with the original title, even if IMDB is using a translated title.

Plex Movie/IMDB/Somebody seems to be having issues with ‘Localized’ titles - like yours.

If you can endure it for a while I think it may work it’s way up the chain to the team that can do something about it. It also might not have anything to do with Plex.

I wouldn’t make any sweeping changes at this time.
Perhaps you could hand edit this one - for now.

Disappointing but thanks for the quick response.
I will do that (manually edit and wait…)

Actually that won’t ever match. Plex is only able to match theatrical movies to IMDB. TV Movies won’t match. You’ll need to do a manual match using TheMovieDB.

This is NOT a match failure, but I was sure it was gonna be:

A Movie Library\
.....I ♥ Huckabees (2004) [1080p x265]\
.........I ♥ Huckabees (2004) [1080p x265].mkv

without FileBot I wouldn’t have had any idea what to do with that - and I didn’t have time to play around with it. Matched instantly. Moved on…lol

Have we made Plex so stupid it can’t read?

Cut back on the mathematical prediction algorithms and send Plex back to grade school so it can learn to read.
