Incorrect language movie posters / actor cast issues

Hi All,

We are aware of issues with (primarily) English-language movie posters not showing up and often getting one in a different language. This is due to maintenance going on at The Movie Database (TMDB), which is the default site from where the Plex Movie agent gets posters. We do not have any info on when they might be able to resolve it.

The issue can also affect cast/actor images, if you have your agent set to pull cast information from The Movie Database.

To help lessen the impact in some cases, you can enable Cinematerial and/or Fanart.tv in your agent settings (and move them above “Plex Movie” in priority) to include those as additional sources.

Go to your Settings > Agents for your server to enable them. Once you make a change in the agent settings, you should also Refresh the metadata on the affected movies to gather the new metadata. (see next post below for more info on fanart.tv)

OK so something I forgot about since it has been so long since I got my own for Fanart.tv There is a personal API key you can get to make it work correctly. This does involve making a free account at there and generating a key.

  1. go to https://fanart.tv/get-an-api-key/ Create a free account and generate a personal API key
  2. In the fanart.tv agent settings press the gear icon on the right and enter your key.
