Just about every movie on HDD loads metadata without a problem. Those that don’t, using “Match” resolves any issues. Except for Noble House - 1988 TV Mini Series. I’ve tried moving out of Movie folder, clearing trash/bundles (as per instructions from another post), yada-yada-yada. But, when the MP4 file is moved back, the dratted thing still won’t match. Nor will Match or Fix Match work. Match actually finds a perfect match (Noble House, 1988), but selecting it doesn’t actually update the Server metadata.
What are my options at this point? I can simply download a cover and upload that, but I’d really like to get the associated metadata (tags, dates, etc) to download.
A TV Show Library/
....Noble House (1988)/
......Season 01/
.........Noble House (1988) - S01E01.xxx
.........Noble House (1988) - S01E02 - Epsidode Name Optional.xxx
The naming for the show is the same, but matching with TVDB will score you 1 actor with no image - matching at TMDB will score you 6 actors complete with images:
Select your database of choice, but mine would be TMDB at this time…
Note:
Regarding “Episode Name Optional”…
Make certain you get that right, or you may find Plex suddenly thinking these are 4 parts that need gluing together…: https://www.thetvdb.com/series/noble-house/seasons/1
Hmm. I thought of that, but didn’t try because the Shogun Mini-Series worked without a hitch in the movies. I’ll try that and let you know.
I switched them to TV Shows. Now Noble House works, but Shogus won’t even load into the TV Show list (formatted the same way as Noble House - Show/Series/Episode).
After I tried your suggestion this morning left it to get some work done. I came back about 30 minutes ago and it was still wrong. But, I ran yet another Scan Libraries and for whatever reason this time it updated everything correctly. Not sure why the initial Scan didn’t work, but there it is.
All Meta’d and Postered!
PS: One thing I forgot to mention is that I ripped these from DVD’s I purchased, which is also why I figured they’d load from the Movie folder. Go figure.
I have a (way too large) queue of MakeMKV’d DVD Rips to run through Handbrake and most of them are TV Shows… I have to explore a bit, sometimes, the online databases to determine which one I should use - and that sometimes determines if they’ll be Movies or TV Shows and which TV Show Database to use.
Note: there was NEVER a need to use TMDB for TV Shows in the past, but Plex’s ability to completely bork interactions with TVDB has changed all that.
I hate using Handbrake for ripping - it so much slower than other rip utilities I’ve used - hours different usually. It’s usually my last-resort fingers crossed selection choice.
I was using WonderShare Video Converter but they suddenly started enforcing their trial (rotten sneaks, eh? :)) limits - they’ve never been up to date on decryption, anyway. Although more complicated, I’ve been using 123 Copy DVD Platinum with great success. It is a bit tricky on choosing the correct option to do the copy, though. I’d be happy to help anyone who needs help getting that going. There are many rip utilities out there, some of which might be much better - 123 is just the one I found first.
I’ve been Handbraking all day - working on that way long list of DVD rips - on my machine an hour of program goes through a 2 Pass Handbrake Session in 15-20 minutes.
Unless you’re using your wristwatch to encode on, you may be doing something really wrong. I’ve often thought about re-writing my Handbrake Guide… perhaps soon.
There are many guides already published for HandBrake - writing another is not needed.
Ripping the media means to NOT alter the stream. MakeMKV rips the streams, as they exist.
MkvToolnix is a secondary, post rip tool with remux capabilities (add subtitles, or remove unwanted tracks).
Both MakeMKV and MkvToolnix run at device or network speed without altering the image quality in any way… You retain the original and not end up with some abomination.
I can remux media, or rip from the drive, at 200+ MB/sec storing it on the NAS.
Load, click and Add to Queue is fairly simple, but it’s entirely possible. But, it’s taking 30-50% of the time Handbrake needed to rip a DVD using Wondershare or 123Copy. That works for me.
I was also having trouble with Handbrake dealing with encrypted disks. It never seemed to like the add-on decryptor and I really hate adding TSR’s (terminate and stay running) because of the general OS drag.
